    ... experience, checked into a small family run hotel; the Radisson Blu. We signed in and immediately got upgraded to a suite. The room is HUGE and had very neat tunnel photo over the bed which gave the room an even bigger feel (apologies for the quality of the pic but our camera is terminally ill and I had been playing with the lens settings….) and from the 33rd floor you get an amazing view of the harbour and sea. ...

    ... Here you can see the Roman Gate that is also known as "Cleopatra's Gate" and sometimes referred to as "Gate of the *****". Why? Who knows.

    Actually, having seen the city, I would have chosen a different spot to visit as there was really little to see here. However, if you are interested in religious relics this might be up your alley.

    An early start: 6.15 breakfast, on the road by 7am.
    Crossing the river via Kennedy Bridge we got a quick sighting of Taskopru (a Roman era stone bridge built by Hadrian, early C2). Nearby, the six minarets of Sabanci Merkez Camii, the largest mosque between Istanbul & Saudi Arabia, bulit by one of Turkey's richest industrialists.
    It would have been nice to spend a while absorbing the energy of this town but, unfortunately, we had no time to dally ...
