Life by the Beach

... year old boyish style he insisted we head to Wet 'n' Wild (a local water park) for the day to celebrate. It was a gorgeous sunny day and we had heaps of fun on the rides and the lazy river, topping the day off with Ikea hot dogs on the way home! When we first went to the Sunshine coast we discovered a little town called Mooloolaba. It had a gorgeous beach a few little shops, heaps of restaurants and a gorgeous marina. It was such a chilled out day that we ...

The Wonderful World of Dog-Sitting

... I think, therefore it was our tourist duty to take in the experience. We had the ultimate privilege of staying in a real house that night. And, to us humble tent-goers this place was nothing short of a palace. Spacious, but cozy with hardwood floors, lots of windows letting in the natural light, and all the little personal touches that make a house a home... even when you are little more than a complete stranger ;) We're not sure what we did to earn such spoiling ...

Wet Sundays and Sleeping Rough

... about venturing into dingo land so decided to keep it close to home). Luckily it was only wet and warm and being ever prepared I had purchased a box of baby wipes before we left....there's no way I would have been washing my foot in the jelly fish and shark infested ocean, that's for sure! Spirits were a little low on the last day due to rain and lack of food as the boys left the Eski out and said that the Dingos ate all of our remaining food.....oh yeah....more like ...

Day 11 - Monday

... Marg & Mal have a wonderful condo in the next village called Alexandra Headlands. Carla , Don & the dogs came up too. The dogs had a great time walking on the beaches, chasing waves and tasting the salt water. Marg & Mal would get up early every monring to walk them. One morning we managed to get up early enough to meet them for a coffee at the Coffee Club near the beach. We had a chance to check out the great beaches, watch the surfers, wonderful waves and ...

... surfing and fishing. You can also head out to sea to enjoy a day of deep sea or game fishing. The name Mooloolaba is thought to have derived from either the Aborinical word 'mulu for snapper fish or from 'mullu' meaning red-bellied black snake. Lieutenant Heath surveyed and chartered the Mooloolah River mouth and harbour in 1861. The following year, Tome Petrie, explored the region for timber resources. By 1864, the first land was purchased at the mouth of the ...

Mooloolaba

... a guitar to backing tapes. At one point the sound of "Shadow's" tunes, my favourite UK group from years ago, wafted across the market ground and made me feel very nostalgic. Driving west to the coast at 'Noosa Heads', we passed through a busy seaside resort, packed with people in the weekend sunshine. Here we hit one of the holiday coast's biggest problems - nowhere to park. We had noticed this in many other towns but especially on the coast. There are attractive towns ...

If I had to live in Australia...

... run, I met up with Tim and we drove to the Australia Zoo, which is about halfway between Noosa and Brisbane and more inland. We got there just in time to see the last 20 minutes of the crocodile show, which is the part where the biggest croc comes out and snatches raw meet from the zookeeper's hand. I was at least 100 ft away from this action and it still made me jump! Then we ...

... the crocs and tigers but the fact that they even offer that is great. They have a big show twice daily in the Crocosseum which is an all seater arena in the middle of the zoo. It seemed all of the animal handlers had been trained by Steve Irwin personally as they put on a cheestastic show for us all with great enthusiasm. Lots of "Crikeys" and stand up stuff with crowd interaction and great animal shows involving Snakes, Crocs, Birds, Elephants and the ...

National parks and family reunions

Catching up with Simon's only relatives in Oz. Simon's cousin, wife and kids are really nice. They have just emigrated from the UK with their boys and they bloody love it man! Kookaburras on their back fence, snakes everywhere. They back onto the national park on Bribie so get all the wildlife. It was great to get a touch of family again.
