A few weeks previous I said to myself finish your trip with a bang. So it seemed only right and fitting that a day at Universal Studios as I headed south and home was fitting.

I scored a hotel 10 mins walk from the main gate, which eventually arrived at after another delayed United Airways flight! Ah I had better service in South America …

Thunder in the tropics.

One nice thing about stepping off the bus is Florida, other than finally getting off the bus after 22hrs was the heat, a nice reminder of Australia. Unfortunately, we got to hate it and it unpredictable nature, sweltering one minute pouring and thundering the next. Another nice aspect was having our own room where we could just pass out, exhausted …

... get in at rope drop. It's quite cold this morning, so before the fun begins we needed to buy a fleece for Elise as she only had a thin cardigan on. That done, where to start then?... "Cheetah Hunt", that's where... this is the newest ride here with a trio of launches at speeds of 60mph to simulate a cheetah hunting it's prey... wow...!!! Next was the 140ft high "Montu" with it's seven intenense inversions. This was followed by the now ...

Day 45 of my journey-ay ay ay!

A travel blog entry by bradrediger

Buenos noches, mi amigos! Today was a pleasant day in Orlando, I suppose. I woke up around 10, which is spectacular. My sleeping schedule is all over the place, so it was nice to have a morning to sleep in! I finished one of my assignments for UNK, and I still have so much to do. Oh dear! I suppose I will donate a hefty portion of my morning on Wednesday to schoolwork. Tomorrow I am meeting Billy and Mikey at Hollywood Studios! We will dine at the always-fun Sci-Fi Drive ...

Reputable named hotel, how could you go wrong!!!

    from anonymous

Stayed here Feb. 14 to Feb. 18, 2005. When booking room we were told that the shuttle from airport to hotel would be $12.00. Upon landing at airport, tried calling hotel to arrange for pick up. As all airport staff informed us that if their name was not on the free shuttle service board, there would be no shuttle. After numerous calls to hotel and half an hour later with no-one answering the telephone we were forced to call a cab which cost us $38.00. Finally we arrived at our hotel. First impression was "party central". Second impression "what a dump". When asking staff about the $12.00 shuttle we were told "Aw they lied, sorry!" To top it off, they have a sign posted stating "Free Shuttle to and from Airport". The rest of our stay was not any better. Bugs everywhere, stinky room, rotten bathtub bottom, other guests dogs barking constantly and having to dodge dog poop. Inconvenient location to almost everything except Universal. Had to pay another $36.00 to get back to airport. Called Customer Service line to complain and were told we would hear back within one week............still waiting!!!!!

BE WARNED!!!!!!! You get what you pay for! Price was cheap!

If you like ants in your pants.. stay here!

    from Nycbunny

I have stayed at this hotel twice in years past, and have found it adequate with no major problems. After this stay the week of 3/4/05, I will never stay here again. The reason being is that on the last night of our stay I found more than a 100 ants on the bed! Granted I only paid 52 dollars a night.. and I expected the mold in the room and having a run down room, but not a farm of ants on the bed! What is that???? The front desk staff did nothing about the ants, and did care about what I was saying. Don't waste your time with this place. Pay a little more, and have a good nights sleep without worrying if ants are going to bite your toosh.

Wish I had read reviews first!

I booked two rooms during a busy International convention. The carpets were WET (socks got soaked) and musty smelling, ants in rooms and many other minor problems. Could not get other rooms because hotel was booked full. Transportation only ran once a day and "walking distance to Universal" would have taken an hour. You have to request the "Kids eat free" each time you go -- no one volunteers how to recieve this service. 24 hr Denny's is convenient, but packed for breakfast so go early and late night service left much to be desired. I was offered a 15% discount on my next stay for the inconvenience, but would not stay here again even if it was free!

What their ad doesnt tell yourooms dirty, ants in bathroomcracks everywheretiki pool bar seasonal the staff is helpful but guest services will not go out of their way to help you, or make calls to any service. However they will give you the number. The pool is nice large and heatedbut overall this is the worst Days Inn we have ever stayed atp.s. transportation to Universal is provided once there at 9a.m. and once back at 6p.m.If you miss the bus get ready to walk 1/2 mile.not a back walk but conciding the walk in parks it will wear you out at the end of the day.

    Don't Stay Here Verry Discusting

    from anonymous

Don't stay here the place is Nasty. My daughter and i satyed here mother's day weekend of last year and will never return to this hotel again. The room that we had was full of cob webs, Room Stunk, Broken light, Dark and Damp. Beware about Makeing wake up calls you might not get one. Piggeon Poop Every where along the sidewalk to our room. In the game room one of the games was broken. Don't eat at the on site Denny's restraunt that will make you sick. The people in the restraunt weren't attentive to you at ALL. Yes i do say that it's only 500 yards to universal but an apox 20 -30 mins to get in to the park gates. My Daughter and i couldn''t wait to get out of this Nasty Hotel. Take our advice and the rest of the other people that have said the same DON'T stay here stay at another hotel in orlando. We also called the headquarters and said never again and they gave us an partial refund of our deposit.

Stayed here in Janury 2003. Friendly staff, great service and wonderful time. Will definately make this hotel a place to stay.

    Lovin it!

Great Hotel. Stayed there 5 nights. Clean comfortable rooms.

The oversized heated pool was a major plus. The kids spent late nights there.

    Days Inn East Gate universal

    from sherrjo

Do not stay here until the complex is refurbished it's old the parking lot is shared with Denny's 24 hour diner and it very poorly lit. The rooms we had had a damp odor about it the beds were hard and there were ants everywhere the bath was rusty.Need I say more, and it's NOT 500 meters to Universal, well yeah it's 500 meters to the entrance to univeral property but a good 20 mins to the park gates.

    The very worst hotel

    from anonymous

A very dirty and disgusting hotel. My wife and I were afraid to touch anything and could not wait to leave. Yes, it was inexpensive, so what? Blood and other stains on the walls, a VERY dirty bathroom. Cockroaches. Lots of rowdy people all night making noise. Maybe the cop hanging around in the lobby could have taken care of that but he didn't look too interested in doing his job. I complained to Days Inns corporate after I got home and they basically told me it wasn't their problem. I have not been to another Day's Inn since and never will again. There are a million other options in Orlando and elsewhere. This hotel is totally and completey disgusting!! Go elsewhere for your own sake!!!

    Never again!!!!!

    from anonymous

This Days Inn has to be the worst I have ever stayed at. We picked this hotel because of the ratings from both the AAA club and the Days Inn main web site. Both of those organizations should check in for 5 nights like we did and maybe they will change their ratings. First off I had called a week before we arrived to make sure they had our room and to reserve a microfridge unit, I was told not to worry that there would be plenty of units when we arrived, but of course there wasn't any when we got there. The desk clerk did get us a frig but not the micro and knowing that I was very upset about it and had packed alot of micro ready foods for my younger child, she never even bothered to tell us that there was a micro available for anyone to use in the laundry room. we discovered that on our last night there. The room was disgusting dirty, cobwebs hanging in the corner of the room the whole 5 days, a broken toliet, the bathroom door didn't shut properly, the safe key was missing and when I asked for one they couldn't find it, the room was musty with a mildew ordor and very damp. They don't like to give you towels or bathroom tissue...I had to go hunt down the cleaning people for a roll. The only thing going for this place it that it is close to Universal and our teenage children were able to walk back and forth themselves and it did have a fairly nice heated pool. Next time I go to Orlando I will check out the rooms before giving them my credit card number and I will not be staying at the Days Inn there ever again....Take my advice and spend a few extra dollars to go someplace else!
