Friday 30th October

On the ship until 2.30 when we left by tender for the short service to Mykonos, one of Greece's most popular tourist islands. Today was a public holiday (see yesterday's entry) and everything was closed except the cafés which were doing a great business. The sun was out for a lot of the day too.

The school kids were out in force again with their marching and drumming and having a great time. There were priests and lots of dignataries laying wreaths and then more marching and drumming through the lined streets. It was quite moving to see.

The next morning many of us regrouped in the hotel lobby. Some were heading off home or on other adventures and some on a 7 day cruise. Many were also on the same 3 day cruise as me. ... theatre, sacred lake and temples for all and sundry like Zeus, Heracles, Athena and Aphrodite. There's amazing mosaics and wall frescos or what is left of them, there's the house of Dionysus, Cleopatra, the Dolphins and Trident and what's left of marble statues.
