    ... inlets and bays, it seems longer when driving around it. Up, down, spinnin' around... :-) There are gorgeous bays around every bend with crystal clear water and, as there are so many bays, it's easy to find one out of the wind. We hired a scooter for two days and Andrew dinked me around the island. We stopped wherever we wanted and swam, ate or just lazed to our hearts content.

    ... thinks it is the well-covered riots in Izmir in late June which would have put people off, whereas I think when the UK school holidays start (pretty much today) there will be an influx. This place is pretty heavily frequented by German, Dutch and other European tourists already, but the 'package tour Poms' would completely ruin it for us. Sad to say goodbye to the Beach House at Guvercinlik, the girls have enjoyed it there. And David has found it relaxing to come home ...

    I have always fancied a trip to a proper Oracle. And so I was somewhat disappointed to discover that the famous Oracle of Apollo at Didyma has moved on some years earlier - possibly after that pronouncement about Alexander the Great being the son of Zeus. That didn't turn out so well, although it did raise quite a lot of funds for the temple.
