      ... the Russian border....the farm house use to be a Finnish border guards house but now the border is watched electronically...

      ... on the walls and ceilings, truly a special place. The paintings show the Creation, through the Old Testament to the suffering of Christ. The best preserved - the Last Judgement - had been covered up, as it was thought to be too distressing to the congregation! (Bliss of the children of God and the pains of Hell).       Domna's house - lunch at Vartilus border crossing - Korkana Husky Farm 41km

      The Husky Farm is a nice sauna spot for farewell. Huskys are calmer than expected. In particuliar the last day showed me I couldn't navigate such sik tour on my own. In part we crossed forest without a trail. It became cold that day and the old snow went ruthlessly sharp. I collected quite some blue marks that day.

      ... Karelian traditions.

      In our group there were also two Finns one of whom had a very sonorous voice. We asked him to read something out of the Kalevala that is said to have typical untranslatable rhyme schemes - beautiful! Without understanding a word I enjoyed listening very much. Since hoping for someone to post a read-out on Youtube (maybe on the creation of the world and with subtitles).

      Historically border patrol distances were 25km meaning that every 50km there was a border patrol house, hence the Raate one. It has a tower that shakes quite in the wind with precision field glasses. Bedding is crude but sufficient. The owners helped themselves with a substantial remainder of my Bacardi Rum - but well, who am I not to share...
