... life and heritage on the river banks. The tar extraction pits were most fascinating. They get the tar (i.e. resin) from the tree trunks, buried in large pits with a fire above. After this, we wandered around some of the town, had dinner at one of the stalls in the market square ( I had salmon, Ron had reindeer sausage and elk meatballs!) and then back to the hotel. We drove from Vaasa to Oulu yesterday. Oulu is the largest northern town in Finland. Our hotel was close to the water which was nice. Today, we set off to walk along the riverside park. ... on the walls and ceilings, truly a special place. The paintings show the Creation, through the Old Testament to the suffering of Christ. The best preserved - the Last Judgement - had been covered up, as it was thought to be too distressing to the congregation! (Bliss of the children of God and the pains of Hell). Camped beside a lake in the forest. Almost 4 wheel driving as we were on skidoo tracks in the sand. Beautiful reflections in the ...

Domna's house - lunch at Vartilus border crossing - Korkana Husky Farm 41km

The Husky Farm is a nice sauna spot for farewell. Huskys are calmer than expected. In particuliar the last day showed me I couldn't navigate such sik tour on my own. In part we crossed forest without a trail. It became cold that day and the old snow went ruthlessly sharp. I collected quite some blue marks that day.
