Drove into town and went to the Pielisen Museum, the best outdoor museum of the whole trip. No-one else there, so we could admire the superb displays of Karelian village life in 70 buildings and exhibits. Karelia is what is now the adjoining parts of Eastern Finland and Western Russia. We then looked at the really good indoor museum with reconstructions of 18th and 19th century life /houses/ farm equipment etc. Then drove to Imatra, explored ...

Earlier this week, I took an unexpected detour, but well worth it! On Wednesday night, I boarded an 11 hour ferry from Stockholm to Turku, expecting to explore the latter city the following morning and then shuttle across to Helsinki for dinner.
