This afternoon the bus left Shanxi and crosses into another new province for me, Henan Province. My destination is Guoliang, a spectacular series of dizzyingly deep valleys with sheer granite cliff walls so reminiscent of traditional Chinese paintings.

The 1.2 km Guoliang road tunnel is said to be the scariest in the world. Located in the Taihang Montains, the tiny town of Guoliang is perched on ...

... and then we'd make our way back to Fuli by the public bus.  Well, we weren't quite as successful as we only saved about 30 yuan on a 250 yuan boat cruise on a PVC bamboo raft with seating for 4 powered by on outboard long tail. The views of the mountains were beautiful as they rise straight up from the river, but with the dozens of other boats on the, it lacked the serenity of our earlier day. No comparing is hard. We were very happy to have ...

... stylish and walk through the puddles in their fashion shoes.
We were running late because of the wedding party, so the planned visit to cliff sculptures was postponed till tomorrow, and an impromptu visit to a small factory was organised instead. The factory used to make weapons for the military but in more peaceful times had diversified into knives of all sorts. Swords, cleavers, carving knives, manicure sets etc. We were given ...
