... are several well-preserved ruins from Greek Antiquity here, including an amphitheatre (see the pics). And of course there are several churches/monasteries from several historic periods. Dennis, Nikolay, and I spent a little over an hour walking around the city's oldest part.

... alten Autos die Kurbelwellen geschliffen und mit Übermasslagern wieder eingebaut. Ein Kurbelwellenschliff kostet 20 Euro. In Dimitrovgrad macht mir der Wirt nicht viel Mut auf seine bulgarischen Landsleute. Korruption der Polizei mit Betrügern seien an der Tagesordnug. Ich werde mir selber ein Bild mit entsprechender Vorsicht machen.

... Actually so far English has been spoken by all we've met - including by the front desk clerk at the hotel - so shouldn't be any problem. The hospital is literally a couple of hundred feet from the front door of the hotel, so things are really well laid out.

What is missing is some semblance of skyscrapers in a city of 1.4 million.... but with the low clouds and dense trees all around us, there probably ...
