    Leaving Lochovo

A travel blog entry by nicholaspappas on Mar 02, 2015

Today - Sunday - is my last day in Lechovo. It was a long day. Church began at 7:15 a.m. and finished at 10:45 a.m. I'll spare you the details. Suffice to know that my role during the Divine Liturgy was maximized as the rubrics permitted.

After another wonderful lunch and needed nap, I was given a private tour of Lechovo’s museum by the mayor and vice-regent of the "county." It’s a collection of local artifacts ...

... forces everyone to make due. Nevertheless, the delivery truck appeared before 2:00 p.m. and filled the tank. But it takes more than filling a tank with fuel to get heat. The furnace needs to be ignited and this is where the action began. The mechanic could not start it. He banged on it with a wrench and that didn’t work. Then he yelled at it and that didn’t work so he cursed it: “Go to hell” followed with “go f… yourself” ...

... out to be. Just like it has been the last 130km I now had some great magical passes ahead.

As I climbed up this pass the temp began to drop and on went my gloves and then the heated grips. earlier it was a brilliant 20 Celsius and now it was down to a freezing 7 Celsius and there was even snow laying at the top of some passes.

This one great pass must for sure be a tourist area in summer as there were quite a few picnic areas and viewpoints along the way, ...

In this northwestern corner of Greece, the roads approach to within a couple of kilometres of both Albania and the Macedonian Republic, but there is no access to either country. The point at which the three countries meet is in the middle of Lake Prespa Major. The area has the back-of-beyond feeling that always appeals to me.

The main population centre in Greece is the historic but very small village of Agios Germanos. We stayed at the Varmous Hotel ...

... public bit--but no wifi. The public area is well appointed, the wood harkening to a ski chalet. Certainly can't complain about the digs on the trip [though undoubtedly Ms Posh Nosh could]. I think she wants to go to the National Museum in Sofia to see if she can find a fossil that looks older than her; might be hard work.

Nice temperature outside. Too bad we got here so late as would have been nice to do a bit of walking. Long pants and sandals for ...
