Hurray, Boracay! A very early start on Tuesday morning, the earliest yet I think! We got up at 5.30am to pack up our stuff and hop a taxi to the airport. We had an 8.45am flight to Cataclan on a Turbo propelled jet. There was probably only 50 seats on the plane. It was pretty cool. Everyone getting on the plane had pictures taken of themselves with …
Before we left for our trip we joked that Rachel would probably get covered in bites while I wouldn't be touched. Well we've discovered that the mosquitoes here aren't a big fan of Rachel but they absolutely love me! I'm covered in bites everywhere, some of them are whoppers which makes my skin look like it was hit by multiple golf balls. They're …
The last two days have been good and bad for both of us. We woke up yesterday morning fresh as a daisy and raring to go for another day of training for our open water PADI licenses. We arrived late as usual for our classes as we seem to keep sleeping through our alarms. The day started out with an open water dive to Crocodile Island. It was named …
Well we left very early in the morning on our beach holiday. We had to take a taxi to the airport because it was still dark and the public transport wasn't operational yet - I think it was around 5 am. Didn't really struggle to wake-up because my body clock doesn't know if its Arthur or Martha at this point!
Small problem at the airport, …
We got up around 9 and were very happy to see our luggage had caught up with us! So we could shower, brush our teeth and get into fresh clothes.
We headed down to the beach for breakfast of bacon and eggs. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the colour of the sea and beach - it is really paradise even though it was still overcast.

What a pleasure to stay in the villa. It is very clean and neat. Air conditioned and a stocked fridge at very good prices.
I highly recommend it!

We had originally booked in for a week but we soon booked another. Orchids Resort was almost always totally full and many of the clientele were repeats. Before we left we understood why. The staff were always smiling, friendly and helpful and Lyne the owner laid back and obliging. They had a variety of rooms from our basic fan room to two storey villas. Whilst ours was basic, the staff changed our linen and trucked out beach sand we had trekked in every second day keeping it clean and comfortable. The rustic nature made us feel like we were at the beach and we chose not to upgrade to TV, aircon and kitchen (even if a vacancy had become available).

Heaven On Earth
I was in the Philippines to meet my fiance, now my wife, we met online and chatted daily for many months. She told me about Boracay, she wanted to take me to her favorite place in the Philippines. Prior to my arrival in the Philippines, we went online and chose The Orchids Resort, based on it's website, the website didn't do it justice. Orchids was the most amazing place I've ever seen in person or in pictures! The whole hotel is constructed completely of bamboo and native basket weaved walls, you can't even imagine it, you must see it. I'm so glad we didn't ruin our experience by staying in some modern concrete hotel, if you stay in a concrete type hotel you completely miss out on the charm of Boracay. It was as close to the beach as I wanted to be, just a short walk, but far enough away to be quiet, peaceful and relaxing, unlike a busy concrete hotel. The staff was incredible too, A young man, I think his name was Marlan, met us at the boat and carried our bags all the way to the hotel. The manager Jun and owner Lynn were very accomodating and friendly. The young woman who cooked our breakfast everyday, I think her name was Rachel, was very friendly, always smiled, if you weren't out of your room first thing, she still made sure you ate. Breakfast was served at a little table on the porch right outside your door, so relaxing, like a vacation should be. The food was great too, longaniza sausage, eggs and rice. The rooms are the most affordable I've ever stayed in anywhere. I really hated going home and still constantly think back to the time I spent there. My wife and I feel like our honeymoon was before our wedding, nothing we could ever do could measure up to Orchids! Every holiday and sometimes between holidays we still get email from Lynn Turner the owner, greeting us on the current holiday, keeping us updated about Orchids, I've never stayed anywhere that they really remembered you like that and made you feel so welcome. We are planning to return soon! I still constantly tell anyone that will listen, about my stay there and show them all the pics too. I highly recomend Boracay and the Orchids.
When I went to The Orchids Resort, I was greeted with friendly faces and most helpful and courteous staff. My room was what I would expect it to be on an island - it was clean, and minimally furnished but that was fine. Accessibility to the beach was less than 5 minutes. Breakfast was always ready and a good sized portion. The resort was closeted in behind some other resorts and very quiet, peaceful and full of flowers. The owner was more than amenable in allowing me to use his computer since there had been a death in the family. All in all, I would have to say that I would reserve a room at the Orchids in the future. Boracay is a beautiful place and the scenery at the Orchids adds to the beauty. It is close to stores, restaurants and the markets. One could not ask for anything more. I have referred other people going to the Phillipines to this resort. It is reasonably priced and as I mentioned before, very clean.
Unfriendly manager,dirty rooms,salty water,false website information
First the water is too salty . They are using deep-well facility and you will feel terrible with the salty water taste while having shower or brushing your teeth. Aside from being salty, the water supply is unstable especially if you are using shower. The water flow is very weak.
Also, the manager is unfriendly, rude and unaccommodating. Even if he sees you and you smile on him, he will completely ignore as if he did not see anybody passed by. He is totally terrrible. He does not know the meaning of customer service, or simply the so called MANNERS. It is also far from the beach and from the rest of the establishment, and it is dark during the night. You will feel afraid to walk alone going to the resort.
Some of the staffs tried to be nice, though some were not. I think they are not just trained that's why they behave so. You can also see some male staff shirtless roaming around the whole day.
The room I stayed was not that clean eg. toilet, sink. It says also in the website that all rooms have cabinet or any storage for clothings or others, but there were not.
terrible! we were booked 3d/2n but we decided to transfer after 1 night. first its far from the shore. and the manager is not accommodating.. rude!!!! after we said that we are leaving he even charged us with us-peso exchange rate of 1 dollar to 50 pesos!!!! when every other hotel in boracay is charging only 1 dollar to less than 48 pesos!!! there are other places to stay. so please refrain from going to this resort!!!!
Very nice place, quite and affordable
It's a very nice place for people on a budget, very quite and clean and the staff are very accomodating and friendly. Will still stay there on our next trip to Boracay.
Nice backpacker place
Nice backpacker place, one of the few last standing on Boracay.
The rooms now updated with hot water and TV, didn't use it but some guest feel the need to watch TV when you are in Paradise.
The whole resort built by bamboo and it gives the place the right original Boracay feeling. I would go back!
Wrost Resort EVER
We were originally booked for 3D/2N but we did not stay even 1 night. The place is too far from the beach. The staff, particularly the MANAGER, were not very helpful.
We had to carry our bags in what seemed to be a maze before we reached the resort which was under construction. The room we were led to smelled like rotten food. The lavatory was dirty. The whole place looked like a forest.
But we would have overlooked those negative points if not for the rudest manager we have ever met. He was impolite, not very accommodating and did not know the meaning of customer service. While he was talking to us, he assumed a very aggressive stance with his arms akimbo and his eyes looking fierce. He was the manager from hell
It was very disappointing particularly since the place looked good from the website.
I am not reccommending Orchids to any of my friends, not even to my enemies. It money not worth spending!
The resort is good enough for those with tight budget
I spent last weekend at The Orchids Resort, Boracay. The resort is really affordable and is highly recommended to those who do not have the money to burn. They could use some improvement on the comfort rooms though for they have seen better days. Nevertheless, Boracay is still marvelous.
