    ... Duomo Museum, and the Sinopias Museum, around it.

    Inside the cavernous interior it was delightfully cool, the sun having come out with a vengence. Rich frescoes and sculptures, marble columns, striped on the upper level. Impressive but not intimidating. These are the offerings of Renaissance artists from throughout Europe who were commissioned to restore the interior of the Duomo to its past glory after a devestating fire in 1595. ...

    ... straight to Piazza dei Miracoli, apparently claimed by Pisarians as "the most beautiful urban space in the world" .... and it really is incredible, not just the Torre Pendente, but the entire complex. And,wow, the "not quite upright" tower of Pisa was impressive.......built in 1193, at just 3 stories high the builder noted there was a "problem" - (must have been O'Reilly from the Fawlty Towers sketch!) the structure was already tilting! ...

    ... and Liter beers. People from the group sang, we drank and danced, i meet up with Alyshia from the ireland tour, she was on a Contiki tour. We drank some more and then sometime after 1am i left with a group of people and we attempted to walk our way back to the hostel. We got as far as the duomo before seeing a parked taxi and hopping in. It was only a short ride back and a cheap trip. We got back to the hostel with no trouble and went to bed.

    ... into 2000 and now groups of 40 people at a time can climb up the inside – this is done at half hour intervals – so we brought our tickets for the 1.30pm slot and headed off to check out the souvenirs and get some lunch.

    After another pizza and pasta lunch Adam spotted some sunglasses he was keen on from a street vendor. He’s finely tuned negotiating skills from the Beijing markets ...

    Today we turned ourselves into classic tourists with a trip to Pisa to see the Torre Pendente, of which more later. First, however, whilst the younger members of the group variously slept or sat by the pool, Liz and I went on a little excursion to the Villa Torrigiani.
