Started slowly this morning – it was quite foggy outside with a little bit of rain. I did washing etc, Di wanted to take it a bit easy because she didn't sleep well. Craig and Phil have gone for a big long walk in the local hills. It was great to take it easy. We eventually did go into Pistoia for another look around at things we hadn’t seen – ...

... a bit blown away to say the least. We have arrived at San Miniato, first settled tenth century. It was part of the Via Francigena which is the road link between the other major centers of the region including Florence, Volterra, and Pisa. If you have the time, take a break and have a sit on one of the green lawns, watch life pass you by, and tourists dance to an imaginary track of Kung-Fu Fighting.

Soon after, we were back on a train, continuing our journey with Florence as our next stop.

... to see Michelangelo's work and his original David. No pictures allowed, but we have many stories about Michelangelo's David and the inspiration behind it. My favorite is that David was created by Michelangelo as a symbol of protest against the Medici family. The family who took him in to raise and support him eventually had so much power over him that he felt oppressed and trapped by them as well. He saw himself and the people of Florence ...
