... dinner in the middle of the desert. One of the most memorable experiences in Dubai was different. We travelled to the Souks (markets) where they sold many cheap items. Dad pointed out that we had been in 'fake' Dubai for the trip so far and now we were in 'real' Dubai. 'Real' Dubai consisted of many people approaching us hopeful of us buying some cheap spices or fake handbags. There were many people pouring out of mosques and endless apartments ...

Well we landed and got a taxi to the hotel. And instead of a taxi, ended up in an overpriced private car. But it was really nice, so whatever. Our hotel is actually quite near the airport, but not really in a happening area. I was under the impression there were lots of restaurants and shops in the area but we haven't found them. Department and grocery stores are either British or French chains - Tesco, Marks & Spenser, Geant, Carrefore, etc but no Walmart or Target. Tim Hortons ...

... as fridges on top. The wooden water taxis looked especially interesting, with people perched on top of platforms, with no railings to stop anyone falling off! And all around us were the modern hotels and business properties. I usually write this blog light heartedly, but Dubai is a challenge. The building projects all over are immense, and I am not just talking about the height. I understand a lot of this maintains employment, and improves lifestyle, but what ...

... good and it leaves me with another 3 which I want to see on the second flight. When travelling you have a hell of a lot of time on your own with your thoughts, I'm not sure that this is actually a good thing for me, as I've always been very guilty of overthinking everything. But that's in the past now, what I have learnt is that for me to be happy then I have to be myself and be making other people happy. No more worrying, let's just live and ...
