What the...?

Embarking might be the right word. I had to be barking mad to book a Mel-Sin flight without going Premium Economy or Business Class. Except that Premium Economy upgrade to our bookings would have been to all sections only - about $3,500). Once I upload some of the images and videos you’ll get the idea. It was truly cattle …

Singapore - Tuesday
We slept in, remembering we were still on Melbourne time. 10 am breakfast finished downstairs, so we could wake up at 10 am Melbourne time and still have time for a shower and breakfast.
The room was small but adequate, our guide that day reminded us that Singapore was an island of 630 square kms with over 5,000,000 …

Breakfast at the Zoo!

Wake up at 6:30 for a pickup at 7:30 in the lobby. Singapore bus excursions all seem to follow the same pattern. Down to the Singapore Flyer where absolute chaos reigns as feeder busses pull in and disgorge passengers for each and every tour under the sun. The Big Island
Today we were to visit Sentosa Island. This island was part of Singapore’s expansion plan and an idea to develop a resort, an adventure playground and a casino outside of Singapore city. Google it! We were to head out at about 2 p.m. and return at 8:30 p.m. for a scheduled flight to London at 11:59 p.m.! Was that cutting it …

    Cosy Hotel with good location

    from Ryleeh

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at The Orchard Hotel.

Great lobby area that is bustling but cozy at the same time.

Rooms are smaller than many hotels I've stayed in, but they are modern (flat screen TV's) and clean.

Location is great. It is located at the start of Orchard Rd, so all the shopping is a short stroll away!

Staff were friendly and breakfast buffet was delicious - Western foods (ie, bacon, eggs, hashbrowns etc) and also Asian breakfast (noodles, Miso soup, etc).

Overall, a good value hotel for those who have come to shop. Will definitely stay there again

    Good Value

We stayed at the Orchard Hotel for 3 nights in a Deluxe Room in the Orchard Wing. We were pleasantly surprised to find the room had been refurbished since our last stay in April 2004.

Whilst the size of the rooms are small as seems to be the standard in Singapore, the new decore is very nice. The only problem is the bed is smaller (length & width) than a normal queen bed and is very hard. Apparently the beds in the Claymore Wing are slightly larger. Our inroom safe was broken and couldn't be repaired during our stay. We used the hotel safety boxes instead.

Staff were pleasant at all times. We didn't eat at the hotel restaurants as there are other restaurants within close proximity to choose from.

    Reasonable

    from jonben

Quite a good location, but at the far end of Orchard Road, so one is walking past the same shops all the time. Rooms were fairly small and there was little drawer space, but the window into the bathroom provided my children with lots of fun.

The pool was large and pleasant enough, and the giant chess board also kept my children occupied. The putting green was supposedly out of bounds for under 12s, but noone else used it and my 10 year old who does play golf was disappointed.

We didn't eat in the hotel at all, so can't comment on that.

Good standard, but that's about it

    from foryou

I stayed at this hotel on a 2 days business trip. The hotel is fine and offers all the facilities one might ask for. My unconfirmed reservation was held until my late arrival, which was good. Overall the hotel and its services were great, however the service in the Orchard Cafe was shocking. It took around 20 minutes for a waitress to 'spot' me and then another half hour to be served. Trying to sign the bill was another adventure, only cause the staff found it more interesting to read the newspaper or chat to each other than paying attention to their customers.

The room boy however was extremely friendly and polite, so where the front desk staff. I had no problems in getting a late check out FOC.

The hotel is located strategically well, and i would return if I was coming to Singapore again on business.

    Better Than Expected

    from TravelSimone

The staff was helpful and quite courteous. I was allowed to check in early and out late without any hassles. The rooms were clean, well equipped and somewhat typical (rather generic) of a large mid-priced hotel. The location was excellent. I especially liked the pool area and also the fact that they had a huge amount of TV stations- something for everyone. Taxis came by the hotel entrance on a regular basis, so that there was hardly ever a wait. Finally, the SIA Hop-On bus (tourist bus) stop was just outside of the hotel.

    Ok but not great

    from Yohan

I stayed at this hotel in Feb05 and had some problems. The Hotel couldn't find my reservation to start with, which I wasn't to worried about because I had the voucher and thought that they would find it at some stage?

However they didn't find it. I know that it was not the travel agent because I am the Travel Agent and I know it was not the operator because I checked everything over before I left. The problem itself did not annoy me because things like this happen all the time and I knew it would be resolved at some point.

What annoyed me about this hotel was the staff attitude; unfriendly and rude. They made out that it was my fault and they said that they would debit my credit card for the nights stay. I had no problems with this being done but it was the attitude in which they went about it that annoyed me.

Anyway leaving that greavance aside I found the hotel to be fairly empty and cold in atmosphere (this probably effected the staff). The rooms were nice but the whole place lacked any warmth and seemed geared towards the business traveller.

In its favour it did have a very nice location on Orchard Road and it could have just been the occassion that I was there that it failed to impress.

**I found when I got back to the UK that they had contacted the operator to say they had found the reservation after all, but they had overcharged me on my card, eventually this was resolved but took up alot of time

    Not bad good location

    from anonymous

Stayed on the club floor ,room was nice though no better than a standard 4 star.Room was clean and tidy, though noisy you could hear everybody coming and going .Stayed at pan pacific last time which is alot nicer though way out at suntec city. Also the buffet breakfast was only average. The pool and gym were ok a bit old looking.

    My favourite hotel in Singapore......

    from anonymous

My husband and I have stayed at this hotel twice now.

The first time in June 2001 we were on our honeymoon and were presented with gifts from the hotel.

The second time was April 2003 with my husband and In-Laws.

I would definately stay at this hotel again and again as it is so conveniently located with friendly, helpful staff and lovely huge luxurious rooms.

    Loved the pool area

    from SEXYSHOES

Excellent hotel right in the heart of all the action - well worth a stopover - we stopped on the way out to Australia and we were not dissapointed.

Much more luxurious than we expected!

    from KateandSteve

This was very comfortable and quite cheap. They were refurbishing one of the towers when we were staying last week but the only effect this had was a slightly roundabout way to access the pool, (25m outdoor, beautiful!) Breakfast buffet included in the price, adjoining rooms with an additional external door so we could make the rooms into a suite and keep the doors open between us and our children. Superb location if you like shopping, as you lose count of the huge shopping arcades in Orchard Road. Taxis are so cheap it's laughable! Concierge very helpful. Cafe great for a snack.
