... and got some fresh hot waffles, shaped like the Cathedral with melted chocolate on, and some delicious Stollen. It was a one hour drive to Vaals / Holland. A cute little town. We had dinner at Mo'ment, an interesting little resturant. Duck was the speciality. Matt had huge ribs and H a vegetarian lasagna. Hotel Kasteel Bloemendal Vaals was where we stayed and it was lovely. 18C restored manor house, and we were in the renovated wing.

We arrived at Dan and Andrea's place yesterday around noon and enjoyed a nice lunch of soup and an Italian pizza at the local (and newly renovated) Italian restaurant a short walk away. Dan and Andrea are both working full time and so we took the afternoon yesterday and this morning to explore around the town. We picked up our VW Golf station wagon this afternoon. ... city with lots of history. Standing on their balcony, you can see into Belgium in on direction and to Germany in the other. Quite a unique little corner of the Netherlands. We were treated to wonderful home-cooked Dutch cuisine and had a fun time catching up after some ten years since they visited us in Canada.

Today we visited the fort and caves at Maastricht in Netherlands but as we were passing the Lindt factory seconds shop in Aachen we had to stop and shop. Lot's of chocolates available that we don't see in Australia, we have nearly demolished the block of dark chocolate with pomegranate and chili. ... tried to get to the Relax & Heal section. This was one of our favorite sections. They had some amazing homes on display with simply incredible gardens, all waterfalls and clear ponds and seats that looked like granite but were squishy. Next was a very strange/scary exhibit by Japan about food flavors - there was a map of obese countries, nutritional balance game, a burger and egg flipping station, a terrifying dummy, and iPad babies.
