My non NYE night - not the biggest fan of New Years Eve so got on my bike and made some ground on my bike ride south from Hampi.
I ended up in a nondescript town that clearly rarely sees westerners with VERY little english spoken! I found myself a cheap room, enjoyed some street food, bought myself some fruit and treats for the evening, tucked myself into bed to watch some Breaking Bad and was asleep by 10pm.
Set myself an easy target of 140km on day 1 and stayed in a town called Hassan. Had a bit of trouble negotiating rush hour traffic but made it ok and stayed in a hotel, fairly glad to be in one piece. My overall aim is to get North fairly quickly where I'll meet up with Beth from Raleigh and we'll do some of the North together.
Day 2 I set off at dawn to avoid city ...
... out of
Blore, but failed to get tickets to any place. (It was not only 31st
Nite but also an weekend) My colleague was going to his native
chitradurga for new year, and suggested, why dont we visit famous
historical place Chitradurga. Immediately called up ramesh and said am
booking tickets, to chitradurga. I could only manage to get nite train
... them, these monkeys are a lot more random and duck and weave all over the place. Half an hour later... another one, only this time I hit him! I had a bit a of a wobble but nothing serious, then pulled over to assess. I had a look back and he was just sitting there in the middle of the road, I suppose in shock. Then about thirty seconds later he darted/limped off into the scrub, apparently alright. There was no blood on the bike either so all good.
We got to Jog Falls and had ...
... The air was much cleaner than in the city below which has poor air quality. We sang and played games in an open area and had a bonfire as well. Another delicious meal was catered by a local hotel.
Fresh flowers are a very common way to greet guests in India. Not a day has gone by that I haven't had a bouquet or garland of fresh flowers. Also the food is purchased daily and made from scratch and is very fresh.
