Drove to Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia this morning. Had a city tour (walking) with a local guide-a young girl who was very sweet. A lot of the city was destroyed in an earthquake so it's not as old as you would think-just made to look older. But still a nice city. Visited a church and the local markets. Then had some free time so checked out the shops. They are well known for a particular brand of crystal-so checked it out-but the only ones I remotely liked were €600!!! Don't think...
Zagreb, Croatia ka.duncanWas feeling a bit down. tour hasn't been that great people-wise (apart from the lovely aussie family) though sights O.K. Every tour I have been on have been very lucky in that pretty much all the people have been pretty great. And Zagreb is a bit yuckky. Some people wished me happy birthday at breakfast which was nice and had a cool birthday message from my sis on the phone when got back to my room (poor mum's phone was down so she couldn't ring). Went on an optional excursion this morning an...

... comes the nonstop folk music. Somewhere outside of Banja Luka the radio flipped to regular music and this is the only time you will ever hear me say this...I was actually glad Madonna filled the bus rather than accordians and some unknown string instrument. Banja Luka was also a stop on the trip and we all got out to stretch our legs at the bus station there.

I had to pee so I found the WC and a crusty old lady was standing ...
Zagreb, Croatia atlpilot36... ended up meeting up with a Turkish guy and two brazilian girls who were in the same scenario as i was, trying to find this hostel. Now, this hostel was the cleaniest, yet. OMG, and the cheapest, at 10 euro. This place only lacked one thing, and that was soap and towels. Besides that, it was amazing and initially, i thought i had the place to myself. But, as I wondered the city late, I felt it to be VERY VERY dead. No one was out. Maybe because it was sunday. Who ...
Zagreb, Croatia kciarnie... 30 minutes out of town, and that is where I draw the line. I nix that, immediately. David is much tamer around me after that.

Yesterday, on my birthday, I took the train to Zagreb, Croatia. This town is also beautiful, and I had no idea what to expect when I got here (Ljubljana had been hyped up by other travelers, so I was a little disappointed) so I am charmed by the city. My hostel is just off the main square, a 10 minute walk from the train ...
Zagreb, Croatia sarakmillsZagreb is not in my Top Ten of destinations to visit. Oh no. The high/low point of my visit has been almost getting arrested; more on that later. It started off so well, a new stamp in my passport, yay! A beautiful and scenic train trip culminated in arriving at Glavni Kolodvor train station just before midday. In stark contrast to Ljubljana, Wednesday in Zagreb had some beautiful weather, and it was 17.6 degrees! I got my bearings quickly, and purchased a tram ticket for 8 kuna. My ...
Zagreb, Croatia emmab... recall the events. This last week has been all a blur because we are spending a day in each city, 3 hours in Zagreb, and the like. More of David's sadisitic sense of backpacking. Guest Blogger Dave Again... Today was a whirlwind tour through Bled, Ljubljana, and the Croatian Capital of Zagreb. After enjoying breakfast with our parents, we were pressed for time to get our rental car back to Ljubljana. We experienced first ...
Zagreb, Croatia lilycAfter dragging ourselves and our gear off-site in the burning midday sun and short-cutting the taxi queue by joining up with a couple of nice Irish guys and blagging a passing cab, it was time to jump in the trusty Saab and head down to Zagreb. Despite the lack of sleep we made it, inspite of the terrible Hungarian roads - the nice new motorway runs out halfway to Croatia and deposits you onto route 7, a narrow two way road with foot-deep ruts in the tarmac from the ...
Zagreb, Croatia simon_and_tessWe stopped here to just sleep and move on to Slovenia. It was late in the evening and we would not make it to Slovenia until 11 PM, with no accommodations. Thought it would be better to go to the town with daylight. Found hostel after a long search for 90 kunas each, about 12 euros each ...
