This is an absolutely stunning property in the diplomatic area of the city, with amazing service. There is a bit of a revolution going on at the moment in this country, and there are hardly any other guests. I'm relishing the royal treatment! Could not be happier with this choice, especially since it is walking distance to Maidan Square and the Opera House. My only thought, sitting here writing this late at night in my room, is that the room could use a few more lamps. But that is a very minor thing overall.

I did enjoy a 3 nights twin/double accommodation with my wife experiencing the unique Kiev atmosphere and the luxury Opera hotel lodging. We booked a Kiev city break with panorama-tours.eu, we were transferred from the airport and back, we are definitely very happy with all our stay at Opera hotel and the Kiev city break in general. We would like to greatly recommend getting to Kiev enjoying Kiev city break packages - lots to do and see

... replies from me in English. Not sure what the Independence Day parade involved and knowing we where to met our local guide for a three hour guided walk around the city at 12:00 we didn't venture to Independence Square until then after the main parade. In fact need we not have worried at all. Independence Square was bright and colourful with many blue and yellow flags and many families dressed in traditional clothes with beautiful cross ...

... s before she got on the train, so was not hungry and insisted that we ate hers too. Who am I to turn down extra mash potato?! This was followed by tea from the Samovar (big kettle), which everyone seemed to get for themselves. Except us that is, without us really knowing what was going on, the Russian lady made the Provodnik fetch us two cups of hot water. It came in a ornate crystal glass, set inside an equally ornate metallic holder and was ridiculously ...

... a tea-for-me-beer-for-him break at a lovely cafe with tables and umbrellas. We spent almost an hour just watching the world go by. The interesting thing about this cafe was that it was at the base of a flight of stairs and looking at our map, it looked like we could climb the stairs and actually make our way to Bankova St and our next stop, the House of the Chimeras. ...

After visiting Chernobyl, the following morning was my final day before my flight in the evening. Halina however had to leave in the morning to get her day long coach back to Warsaw, and so I was left on my own. I went to visit the Soviet Motherland statue on the hill overlooking the river facing Moscow. This was apparently built after the war, and was absolutely huge! After this I went to visit ...

Anyone headed here for that in 80 days or so is in for a wild ride!

Oh, and Ukraine’s most famous export, Women - they are as stunning as all the rumour’s would have you believe.

And one final note, Vale Jim Stynes.

    Off to see the Count.
