A little old, a little new

... brief gallop across the CBD we just made the 10am sailing ($32 each). On this occasion with a troop we opted to rent some wheels on the other side & have more freedom on the island. With 7 of us we took the biggest they had, a Mitsubishi Chariot ($130 unlimited kms). With the majority of the island having a 50kph limit it was like Driving Miss Daisy.

Our first stop was Stony Ridge winery ...

Kone Aucklandiin lähti ajallaan ja täytyy kyl taas kehua Air New ...

The rush around the north island...

... from this elevation is stunning especially with the flatlands of the north island as the background. The first of the two main climbs is tough and the wind starts to bite as we head upwards. Finally we arrive at the base of the southern crater and vast flat expanse which is filmed from the crack in the earth's surface below. The wind is bitterly cold by now and all of the layers we have shed in our climb immediately go back on despite beg shielded from three sides by the crater walls ...

... and walks for sure, but it was amazing just how it was and both of us definitely got more out of it than we could have hoped for. Now we were just facing our 11 1/2 hour flight to Santiago, Chile, where we would be giving Dr Who a run for his money and travelling back in time!

... and I was glad to get it out of the way! Then drinking after with a bar tab to be used up, so the night ended quite drunkenly, dancing to the poor musical selection on offer - sorry Pierre but you picked some shockers for the end of the night! Thanks to Maria & Raphael for arranging accommodation and being so lovely, and good luck Pierre and Helen :) Song: in honour of Helen and Pierre, Al Green - Let's Stay Together

Waitangi Day & the Chinese and Buskers Festivals

... of the performers that we saw were Magic Brian (magician/contortionist), Bendy Em (acrobat/contortionist), Circus Firemen (juggler/acrobat). All the performers that we saw were very good at the thing that they did. I had a really good time watching the performers. The Buskers Festival was held outside, downtown and near the water front. Somethings that I liked were when Bendy Em climbed into a 16x16x16 inch box, and when a magician ...

Ode to a Lost Love

... price was right. Subtle difference #1 arose as we entered our assigned room and noticed the lack of bedding...apparently, the campers that generally stay at holiday parks have sleeping bags. As we started making dinner, subtle difference #2 was discovered: holiday parks, unlike backpacker hostels, don't supply pots, pans, dishes and cutlery. With an open package of ground beef in one hand, and uncooked pasta in the other, Tracy's new vision of "raw ...

Wining and dining on Waiheke Island

... the BYO thing. This means you can bring your own wine to a restaurant and only get charged a small corkadge fee to drink it there. Now wine is really cheap over here so it saves you loads. We also did a bit of a vinyard tour on the saturday afternoon and got to sample some of the great wine at Mudbrick and Cabel Bay. On sunday we went up to Nick's for a delicious sunday roast ...

My solo trip to Waiheke Island!

On Friday I had a day off of work, so I decided to head out to one of Auckland's harbor islands: Waiheke! Waiheke is an awesome little island with a LOT of great beaches and a little community of people living there! It is also well known for its' vineyards! From Auckland, I was able to take a 35 minute ferry over to the island. My plan was to spend the entire ...

Freaky In Waiheke

... some, but after the thick end of thirty years worth of conditioning, a degree of awkwardness comes before liberation. Neither of us are prudish, both of us accept that given the fact that we all have bodies with similar bits and pieces it makes no logical sense that seeing each other's bodies should be problematic...but as soon as we're weaned off our mother's nipples, we're all taught that genitals and female nipples are only to be viewed for the purposes of titillation. So to speak ...
