... planted in the Venetian rule. Again another day to be 38 degrees! Beautiful weather. We catch a shuttle bus in to Corfu. It has a unique atmosphere and a fascinating blend of architectural styles. With a lovely outdoor culture and twisting streets and hidden alleyways, a lot of greenery compliments the pretty buildings. An old fortress competes with a newer one. The old Quarter is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Corfu is a place to explore for historians, ...

We stopped at the port of Corfu. The only way to really get around the island is to take an excursion. At least it was for us. We were going to see a Monastery in the village of Palaiokastritsa and to the village of Gastouri to visit the 19th century Achilleion Palace.
The places were very beautiful and again the excursions didn't disappoint ...

June 23, 5:31 AM -- Igoumenitsa, Greece The ferry, naturally, became a little less charming when everyone else had boarded. I stayed outside during embarkation, but retreated in once it got too cold (I didn't pack any long pants). Went to the dining area and ordered two portions of salmon and a ham+egg salad. Decent but nothing to write in a journal about. My ticket is for "deck space" which means you find whatever space you can in a public area and camp there. I found an open ...

... is also named Corfu. The island is bound with the history of Greece from the beginning of Greek mythology. Its Greek name, Kerkyra or Korkyra, is related to two powerful water symbols: Poseidon, god of the sea, and Asopos, an important Greek mainland river. According to myth, Poseidon fell in love with the beautiful nymph Korkyra, daughter of Asopus and river nymph Metope, and abducted her. Poseidon brought Korkyra to the hitherto unnamed island and, in marital ...

... on either side. Next stop is Bella Vista, a very Italian name for a Greek view back down to Paleokastritsa. An icecream is called for and consumed (honey and pecan) while I meander up the road from the tourist venue through an olive grove of old and gnarled trees with an interlocking canopy. The trees here seem to run rampant and are not trimmed back as they are in Italy. The Olives from here are apparently small to medium in size and ...
