... convinced there was snow mingled in with the rain. Yes, just popped out to check and she is right, snow within the rain and so cold for us in June! The location is stunning as can be seen in the two photographs , the peace and quiet is much needed. A steady drive to Jyvaskyla with the temperature dropping to 3.5C as we drove, a chilly day! It was great seeing Gwyneth, Timo and Johannes in their Finnish home and having a chat, ...
... the weekend after so hopefully plenty to talk about then!
THINGS I DID
Disc Golf - A
Awesome fun. It was free, took 2-2.5 hours and was great exercise. Seriously, give it a go - just remember to avoid the trees as the discs don't really pass through them.
Finnish Sauna - A
Done authentically with no pants! Only things missing were an ice cold pool to plunge into and an ice cold beer to drink but I'll get to that next time.
My training has been going appallingly so I decided to go for a run round one of the bits of the lake here in Jyvaskyla. I would heartily recommend it, its peaceful, clean, safe and not too far at about 9-10km all the way around. I'm unfit though, so it hurt a lot. Still the views were sensational and its something I'll be doing a lot while I'm here.
... finally did something other than travel to work, eat or sleep. I went to watch the local ice hockey team (JYP) play (they are national champions no less!). But they lost so I'm clearly a jinx though.
Interesting little arena (Synergie-Areena to give it its name). It holds about 4,000 people and has a good old-fashioned atmosphere in there. It is a proper hockey arena though, not all gleaming and fancy but down to earth and a little bit ...
Met up with other friends as well. Sat in a lovely little cafe for hours with one friend, chatting about Crete, men, shopping, small dogs and everything in between. Spent an evening at the movies with another friend, watched The Man of Steel with him and had a drink afterwards. And during that time we talked about sailing, sea, photography and movie special effects, among other things. A very entertaining day.
