It was the May Day holiday and everything is closed so it was an easy drive out of town. It doesn't take long to get out on to the open roads and apparently we are going to some isolated places over the next few days. We are more likely to see reindeer than people. The landscape is very foresty with pine trees, silver birches and water. There are lakes everywhere, some of which freeze over in winter. Wouldn't that be amazing to see? ... a nice piece of pumpernickel bread topped with herring cured in lemon juice. By that stage the temperature had dropped to 8 degrees. Our faces were numb from the cold, so we sought out some shelter and came up with Molly Malone's Irish pub. This was followed by a Belgian pub for tea, complete with menus inside complete original Tin Tin books. ... the fresh smell of waffles made me forget about the fish. Right by the market are the tourist cruise boats as well.


Then there's the Old Market Hall where they sell fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, coffee and dessert. The coffee shops are small but quaint, it was busy but not annoying.

... ferry, if you could call it just that , had 11 decks including 2 for vehicles...huge..It had a spa,casino, three restaurants, a cafe, bars,a disco and a HUGE duty free shop where most seemed to gather buying up grog cigarettes and perfume ,loading into their cars on deck 4 ready to drive off with unlimited booze into a country with very few limitations but a huge alcohol tax making the average cost of a glass of an average wine about $14.
