Thursday 7th August We have left the land of the trolls and entered the land of Volvos ,Scania, Electrolux, IKEA & ABBA and don't we know it !!. Volvos everywhere , taxis, SUVs busses and all driving on the wrong side of the road...nothing changes.. Our hotel is rated 10 by the hotel critic (HC in future) I think because at 10 at night I was easily up sold to a business suite.... But it is nice to look out over Gamla Stan..the old town. ... the bits of paper you seem to collect while travelling lying about the place. Washing duly started, we took the tram to the venue - and joined the queue to get in! It wasn't too bad, moving fairly quickly in fact, so we were soon inside and looking at this mass of people, dogs and trade stalls. Where to start! ... the waterfront (reminiscent of Viaduct harbour!) taking the metro instead of another tram and finally found the central Railway station where we took a bus to the zoo. Located on an island, you then walk across a bridge to another island which was very cool - and great views of the city. Using the natural outcrops of rock as part of some enclosures - this worked well for the mountain goats and sheep of various types! A lot of the wild cats seemed to be hiding in the shade ...

... They had a small electric one in their bathroom and I kept talking about the Finnish sauna experience that Pekka insisted I try it that night. They got it nice and hot so Colin and I could get in and sweat our asses off. Colin used to get the sauna to 100 degrees Celsius, but it's been quite a few years since his body experienced that. Jaclyn and I had never been on a cruise ship before, and while we didn't know exactly what to expect, we had heard the Viking Line ship referred to as a "party boat" by several students, which conjured a certain image in our minds. And while there was definitely a party atmosphere, it was less "college party" and more "senior center fun-time excursion party."
