... the Missouri, but it was raining so hard and so foggy we could not see the river.
From there we drove north to Missouri Valley where we went to the Desoto Wildlife Refuge. We had heard about this site at the earlier prairie refuge we had visited. Besides the refuge they had a river steamer, the Bertram, that had sunk in 1865 on her maiden voyage. Two entrepreneurs had found its remains in a former river channel in 1968 buried under 28 feet of mud. They ...
Spent the night in the Cracker Barrel in Council Bluffs. Breakfast there. Headed to Horseshoe Casino. Had a good time there. Ate at the Binion. Played for awhile. Smaller than the Horseshoe in Baltimore, but nice. Getting ready to head out of this town. Fueling up, bugs off the windshield, ready to roll east! 1044pm here. Oh, and the trip mileage cleared... ... They must have got some snow but very little. We took the turnpike from inside Kansas border to Kansas City. Sure makes travel faster, and cost only 12.00 which saved us time and distance . We figure we saved the fee in gas savings alone. but we had lost a lot of time in the morning so Stan drove late and got us to Council Bluff Iowa where we stopped at Harrah's like we did on the first night. This time no gambling though. Just sleep.
