Historical Traveler Reviews Olympic Lagoon Resort Ayia Napa

    We got married here!

    from

we got married here and it was great, the staff was realy helpfull and freindly, the cleaners came every day. the pool is fantastic, it was a relaxing holiday.

the only thing i have to say you would have to try the restrants around the hotel such as deones and the ally palace, witch both are in walking distance.

Also if you are getting married out their make sure that you have all of your documents such as your affidavit because you would not belive the amount of people that had to get you done out their and its a rip off.

We are going to back in a few years time, one of the best hotels there.

Pleasant stay at the Olympic Lagoon

    from

My boyfriend and I have just returned from a 1 week stay at the Olympic Lagoon.

Whilst it is rated in many brochures as 4 star, I would rate this a good 3 star.

All in all, we enjoyed this hotel and would return in the future. Couldnt fault the rooms which are clean and decor is pleasant. We booked a junior suite with plenty of room and a pool view though we were at the very end suite, ground floor so our pool view was more of the loungers than the pool itself. However, this was a plus in the evenings as we had no noise and it was very peaceful and relaxing, away from the entertainment and bar area.

The only slight downside was food, we booked on a bed and breakfast basis and after trying the evening meal one evening, would recommened this rather than all inclusive. Our meal was not hot, only warm and whilst there was a huge variety of food to choose from, I'd say venture out to the Nissi beach area as there are plenty of restaurants and Tavernas to choose from at reasonable prices. The Garden Inn is good value with big servings.

The centre of Ayia Napa is a good 40 minute walk away, Nissi Beach about 15-20 min walk. If venturing into Ayia Napa, try El Chihuahua Mexican restaurant or Nikitas around the Square area.

Cab prices to and from the Olympic to The Square area are about CYPŁ5, though a little trick we learned was to head out and stand at the bus stand as if waiting for the bus ( buses run half hourly in the evening)...most taxis will take you for about CYPŁ3 or if theres more of you will take the price of a bus fare per person CYPŁ1 each approx.

    Excellent hotel

    from

Me my husband and our 3 year old daughter stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks in july it was an excellent holiday

we stayed in one of the bungalows with private garden and pool view, the room was spacious and very clean with everything you would expect i.e tv, telephone, hairdryer, desks x 2, pull along doors so separate the rooms to give you privacy, the garden was very small but big enough for the 3 of us with a table 4 chairs 2 sun loungers 1 umbrella and 1 small table perfect with a pool view.

the pool was exceptional lagoon style so perfect for children my daughter loved it as sometimes she is nervous going up and down the pool steps you don't have that problem in this hotel, it is the safest pool i have ever seen and most beautiful, with waterfalls and 2 jacuzzis there is also a playground sand pit right next to the pool so your children can go between the 2, it has slides swings playhouse all the buckets spades rakes that they need the staff are brilliant and try to involve the whole family on daily activities but if you don;t want to leave you alone, they are very polite.

lots of boys/men activites such as volleyball- football and competions to keep you amused, childrens clubs which all the children seemed to love, there is also a mini disco each night which was excellent for the children and adults actually

the drink and food prices in this hotel are a rip off thats it's only flaw, a coke is approx UKŁ3, so you get the idea, so what we done was go to the shop for lunch and drinks throughout the day which if you sit near the playground end of the pool is actually nearer than the bar - so go there for cheap drinks and ice creams

although some brochures advertise this hotel to be in Ayia Napa is it a long way from the centre so it is very peaceful it really is in nissi beach which is only 10 - 15 minute walk try the bus which is very cheap to get into ayia napa or if there are a few of you share a taxi the bus stop is just behind the hotel 1 min walk

this is an excellent hotel so if you choose to stay here i'm sure you will have a great time the hotel has many nice touches that we haven't found at other hotels i.e fresh flowers in the room daily, cold flannels to coll you down in the afternoon.

one family we spoke to paid Ł1800 for 1 week for 2 adults and 2 children ( one of these was a baby) to stay in a standard room we paid the same for 2 weeks in a bungalow with our own private garden so shop around we got this deal with Magic Breaks so try them for a great price

    hope this review was helpful

    Nightmare

    from

    WORST HOTEL IN MY LIFE

Me and my wife go in this hotel during this summer.

Room was very old, dirty, just in front of the road with noise all the night (if u want the pool view, u have to add a lot of money),

food was awfull with animals inside (lot of insects), we payd for the food for the week, and we eat only one time (disgusting),

staff was not disponible, they dont care about you,

So, if u like beer, horrible food, dirty room, expensive hotel, u have to go there,

It was a nightmare, u can believe me!

    Brilliant holiday

    from

Just returned from olympic lagoon, had a excellent time and couldnt fault the hotel it was fabulous, the pools were fanatstic and the temperature was warmand perfect for floating around on a lilo. Entertainment was good, always something going on. Air conditioned rooms which was excellent, spotlessly clean, have towels for pool area which were changed when used aswell as clean towels for the room, spacious and has a mini bar howver can be pricey. Fabulous resturants nearby especcially the Garden of eden, friendly staff cant do enough for you, food was fabulous and the surroundings were peaceful and relaxing, recommend to go here. Beach just across the road, lots of watersports and beach bars which serve good food at a resonable prices. Water park was Fanatstic, ten minute walk from hotel and a great day out for all ages. Went on a jeep safari which was out only disapointment, lot of money but didnt enjoy it and we got lost and missed alot. Overall found it a bit pricey, compared to the greek islands. Would definately go back, best holiday and would recommend to anyone.

    Nice Pool

    from

I have only just got back from my weeks stay at this hotel. It's great for families but not for singles. It's right by the motor way and the water park which is a bonus! but apart from that it's quite far away from everything. Very nice beach over the road though. Food was terrible at this hotel, luckily we only had bed and breakfast otherwise we would of been very dissapointed! We had several meals in the hotel and we ended up leaving every meal! Waiter service was also very poor. Our tv was broke for the whole duration and my friends dry cleaning was lost for a few days, with no apology! towels were replaced daily, but the maid did not once give us a new soap or clean around the bath! The best thing about this hotel is the pool! It's huge, with daily entertainment including volleyball and aqua aerobics, the iced towels are also nice that are handed out daily.

    Lovely view

    from

we stayed at this hotel last year, it was our 25th wedding anniversary while we were there and we had a free upgrade to a super room overlooking the pool area. The staff were very friendly, food was great good value speciality nights. We would recommend this hotel to anyone and Aiya Napa is great, loads of nightlife but while we were there didnt see any trouble but had a great time would definitly go back, pool towels are provided so you dont need to pack any towels we even took them to the beach which is quite close. You can walk to Nissi beach which has a disco most days though it is quite a way from Nappa but the bus runs regulary for about 50p

    Excellent hotel

    from

Great hotel with large rooms. The porter took us to the room on a little golf buggy. The hotel is located next to the main motorway to Ayia Napa but dont let that put you off as it's not very busy and teh rooms are well soundproofed. There is a large pool area and they bring around iced towels which are great in the hot weather! The food was great and plentiful. The staff make a real effort with the entertainment which is good as there isnt much within walking distance. There is a very pleasant small-ish beach nearby and its not touristy.

It was my birthday during our stay and we left my birthday cards out in the room. When we returned, there was a bottle of wine and a basket of fruit with a little note saying happy birthday from the management.

They sent me a christmas card this year too. I would stay in this hotel again - if it wasn't in Ayia Napa which is an awful place!

Fantastic hotel, you will not be dissapointed.

    from

This is such a fantastic hotel especially for families.

There are 5 pools and a lagoon style pool which is always warm. It is very clean and the rooms are decorated to a high standard. There is maid service everyday and the towels are changed daily. There is a good entertainment program both for adults and children.

It is very good value and the food is outstanding with plenty of choice.

I cannot recommend this hotel enough. We'll certainly be going back for the 3rd time next year.!!!

    Historical Background
The ancient city of Kition is identified by the ancient Jewish historian Josephus (37-100 A.D.) as Kittim in Hebrew (Ant. 1.6.1). The area of Kition was inhabited as early as the 13th century B.C. by Mycenaeans and then later by Achaean refugees by ~1200 B.C. after the destruction of the Mycenaean populace in Greece. The original city was composed of mud-brick houses with cyclopean, ...

... open sea voyages were risky and difficult. Nevertheless, this did not deter Barnabas and Paul from jumping on the first ship to Cyprus and following the calling of God's Spirit. Actually, this would be the first of many such voyages around the Mediterranean Sea that Paul would undertake in his missionary journeys.

As the biblical record continues, the men arrived on the eastern coast of Cyprus and came first to the city of Salamis (v. 5). The port of Salamis ...

As Barnabas continued the work of preaching the gospel in Salamis, he was captured in 57 A.D. by Jews who objected to his preaching in the synagogue and he was imprisoned, tortured and then stoned to death by Syrian Jews in Salamis. The Paphos fairytale had to end sometime... We jumped on a very cheap $8Euro bus to Larnanca. ($4Euros to Limisol and $4Euos from Limisol to Larnaca). Couldn't believe how cheap it was.. Extremely good value considering the trip took a couple of hours. We got to Larnaca around dinner time.., walking to our hotel we had time to check out the views on the way to the Hotel. Our hotel (Hotel Opera), was absolutely ...
