We then headed back to Basel where my friend could show me around her town. Basel is actually Switzerland's third most populous city. The Rhine river runs straight through it, and many take advantage of its cleanliness and swim, or rather float down it. Basel hosts a few festivals each year and has a lively "downtown" area where locals hang out.

Could do with free wi-fi and better fan for summer!
Very convenient on tramline route but noisy and in heat had to open window facing right onto busy street with trams throughout night.
Compact room but all that is needed, except proper ventilation / fan.
