Could do with free wi-fi and better fan for summer!
Very convenient on tramline route but noisy and in heat had to open window facing right onto busy street with trams throughout night.
Compact room but all that is needed, except proper ventilation / fan.

After two long flights we landed in Zurich around 8 AM. Originally we were going to take the morning train to Munich but concerns over missing it due to a flight delay led us to making a layover and spending the morning in Zurich.

We zipped through passport control, claimed our bags, and headed out to the main train station (Hauptbahnhof) in town. Not knowing anything about Zurich we got on a tram and took the scenic route into town. It gave us a chance to look at ...

Booked an earlier train back to Munich, may even get back early enough to have a beer in a serious city, but full disclosure needed, I like Munich almost as much as I love Berlin. It's not Switzerland per say as I love Geneva , Lucerne etc, but Zurich, stripe me pink! it's a bit dull, if not for this brilliant Irish pub all would have been ...

Zurich isn't a huge city by any means, there are no tall buildings and it seems as though the majority of businesses are located outside of the downtown area. The skyline along the lakefront is filled with old Swiss homes and steeples from the three major churches, two Protestant and one Catholic. There are a ton of restaurants, cafes, shops and as we found a variety of ...

... meals, saw a lot of 'old' stuff and generally became more cultured about the world. I was sitting there today trying to figure out why I don't love that country. It's a mega 'check off the list' for European grand tours and there are tourists almost everywhere. People carrying suitcases in and out again. In saying that, you would think Italy would set up informative tourist points and update signage around the place because half the time you're trying to figure out what the ...

... for Switzerland is coffee (Nestlé, Nescafé, Nespresso), Red Bull (and my loyal blog readers will know that that's produced in Austria, but apparently it's canned in Switzerland), and then chocolate (or was it watches?). Everything has gone very smoothly and according to plan - all of our bookings made on the Internet all those months ago, have all worked out - the tours and the accommodation. Tom got sick of counting the Porsches in Zurich - very common ...
