Miss the Swiss

... UNESCO (which I would love to work for someday), the International Bureau of Education, a professor of the Graduate Institute, and a collaborator from a journal. Overall pretty successful.

On Wednesday my friend Ace and I took a trip up to Zurich to use up our free train day pass. When we got up to Zurich we met up with two boys, one that Ace knew through a friend, and they showed us around Zurich. We walked down the ...

Last Stop- Lucerne

... built in the 14th century that had been almost burnt down a few times: the most recent damage still quite visible. The water was quite clear and was home to lots of swans who would follow us as we walked along the boardwalk hoping for a meal.
On the second day we took a train into Zurich and wandered around its streets looking for thegnomes (bankers) and finding a few nice areas to explore. On our last night we went out ...

SNOW!! Who knew a Canadian would be so excited!?!

Well we finally made it to Lucern after a few hours on the train...and we arrived with some daylight left!! YAY!! So we started walking with my lovely directions that I got from a previous hosteller that wrote them on the website...Leanne was out of her comfort zone cause she wasn't in charge and didn't know where we were going...it was great! Luckily for her I am good with directions and had everything under control! So we got to the hostel ...

Chocolate, Cheese and Chairlifts

For Photos Please Visit: http://www.travelpod.com/members/rbruce We left Munich on a rainy day and headed towards the Mad King Ludwig's Neuschwanstein Castle. The castle was cool to see but a little disappointing since King Ludwig tore down a real medieval castle to build his fantasy medieval style castle and he drowned in the lake before completion of the construction and so never even got ...

Chocolate, Cheese and Chairlifts

... the BodenSee, we were on bike paths the whole way and missed our last chance of crossing a real border! Switzerland has been amazing for having a complete and well signed system of bike paths that cover the whole country. The bike paths often take you through the small towns and farms and keep you safe and away from the busy highways. As you might remember from our earlier ...

Cheese Fondue rocks!

... a fantastic fruit dessert instead! YAY. Today went up the Gondolas and cable car to the top of Mt Pilatus. The sheep and cows really DO wear those bells-and you could hear them all the way up! Was very rainy and foggy at the top so didn't see much but still had a walk around. Was 2 degrees Celcius!! Bit of a shock to the system after being in 35 degree heat!!! Went back down the mountain on a ...

My travels to Zurich

Got up again early this morning to work on a few surveys before I left for Zurich. My initial plans were to head to Basel, the drive to Zurich the next day, however, since I didn't want a repeat my first day in the UK (and after checking hotel prices), I decided to head directly to Zurich, especially since the rates at the hotel were a mere 129 chf a night (around $110). I planned a route around the mountain passes and headed out. The distance was only 343 km from Morel through Sion, up ...

Family and packing

... switzerland again. Pack was a bit of a mess since I had stuff scattered all over my mom's place over the past few months. But it all came together quickly and without too much of a hassle. On Friday I cruised into Zurich with all of my stuff. I'm not flying out till tuesday, but I didn't want to go back to spiez again, I figured I would spend the weekend visiting friends in Zurich. Really good ...

Zurich, Switzerland.

... a truck, extremely bizarre, I guess it is because the houses are so packed together they couldn't move it manually. Later in the week we made a trip with Hans and Regula to the mountains. We went to a cheese making factory, Appenzeller, and walked around a little mountain village called Appenzell. It is such a nice willage, quite touristy but lovely traditional houses with lots of flower boxes. After this we took a cable car up Hoher Kasten. From the top we had such a nice ...
