Ciao Italia

... Osteria Gucini Restuarant: Grilled Veal with Shaved Truffle and Hand Rolled Spaghetti with Smoked Ham, Tomatoes and Cream, followed by Pana Cotta. Our first experience with truffles, more smell than taste!
Next morning a 7.00 am departure from the apartment took us on to the Autostrada, this time, north to Firenze Airport.
After a bit of a delay we were on our way to Spain!

Cortona

... dellightful cafe for lunch: Margaharita Pizza, with a thin crispy base, belissimo! This cafe is well known as a meeting place for Hollywood stars.

Cortona has very narrow and steep streets, purrfect for pets.
Finally we arrived back at Arezzo and after booking a haircut for myself tomorrow (the hairdresser doesn't speak English so that will be exciting) I am sitting at the La Dolce Vita cafe writing this entry while Jane is off looking at the shops (gulp)

Arezzo & Florence

Today we hopped on the train to Florence, for those unfamiliar with the Italian rail system, make sure you validate your ticket by having it stamped in an obscure yellow machine on the platform before you board.Fortunately we had read about this, otherwise the guard can get a bit nasty. In an hour or so we were in the middle of Firenze, the first stop (after 1/2 hour queue) was the ...

Hi Everyone!

This past weekend was the Perugia Chocolate Festival…It was amazing! Basically, I was in heaven. It was a chocolate lover’s paradise. We took a bus from Florence and arrived in Perugia by mid morning. It was a bitter day which gave me a perfect excuse to have some out of this world hot chocolate and churros. A bunch of my friends and I had lunch at a ...

... enjoying Rome and am supposed to meet up with a bunch of the people I met in Florence on Monday night, as it's one of their birthdays. I'll do a post from Rome in a few days. Rockets are up 1-0 in the series against the Jazz! Hopefully, I'll be able to catch a few of the games over here (the first one started at 3:30am here and no bars were staying open for it, although they did show the earlier games).

Statue of David Alone Made this Worthwhile

An absolutely magnificent city. Looking down on it from the hillside, it's just a sea of red roofs. But when wandering the streets, there seems to be something famous everywhere you look. Home of Michelangelo's state of David and the Uffizi (a world famous museum of Italian Rennisance Painters), it's also home of ridiculously long ...

One day in Firenze and a 3hr queue to see David

... a Bowmanette in tow ;) ), waking up early after little sleep, for me to start standing in the Galleria dell'Accademia queue to see Michaelangelo's David, while Heather tried to give back a tour headphone set that she accidently 'stole' the previous day and had to queue at another tourist location! It took us over 3.5hours I think to move about 50m! Once we were inside...David's statue was breathtaking.. "First unveiled in 1504, Michaelangelo portrays the ...

We flew into florence and met Rob, Denise, Adam and Judith who picked us up at the airport and we drove to our beautiful villa in the tuscan countryside. we stayed there for one week, exploring the sights of Toscana including Siena, the Cinque terra, the Chianti vally, San Gimgiano, Florence and more. We also spent ample time lounging around by the pool and relaxing.

Firenze - Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow...

... I thought Piazza Signoria would have been empty after 1am, but the locals too realised this was a once off experience. They were there in their dozens having running snow ball fights across the Piazza. It was hilarious. You would be trying to take a photo, and then someone would take a pot shot at you from behind. In the morning, it was pretty clear that it was a decent fall. About 8 or so inches of snow fell overnight in ...
