Today we rolled into Jerusalem to begin our 5 night stay here. We began with a sweeping overview of the city as seen from the Hebrew University on Mt. Scopis. From there, we descended to the Dominus Flevitt (the traditional site where Jesus wept for the city of Jerusalem) and then to the Garden of Gethsemane. We then continued our walk to the Golden Gate of the old city. The city has approximately 12 open gates and one, the Golden Gate, that has been sealed. During the rule of the Ottoman Tur...
Jerusalem, Israel billandsaraDay 2 began with an aborted attempt to climb atop the Temple Mount due to the insanely long line of tourists. So, our intrepid guide postponed the visit and instead lead us to the traditional site of Caiphas's house and the potential place where Jesus was held the night before his execution. From there we visited the traditional site of the Upper Room (I believe that is one of three or four sites that claim to be the Upper Room) and the potential place of the burial of King David. We then enj...
Jerusalem, Israel billandsaraDay 3 was a free day. We slept in and then made our way to the Jewish, Christian, Arab, and Armenian quarters for some shopping. Nothing terribly noteworthy occurred with the exception of a quick visit to a shop in the Jewish quarter known as Shorashim. We visited this shop 7 years ago when we came to Israel the first time and really wanted to return this time. The shop is owned by two brothers who are originally from Canada but made their way to Israel 25 years ago to live. They are orthodox...
Jerusalem, Israel billandsaraOur final day in Israel began with a trip to the top of the Temple Mount. Last time we were here, we were unable to do this so it was a huge treat to get to. Once on top, we got a close-up view of the Al Aqsa mosque, the Dome of the Rock, the Golden Gate from the inside, and the traditional site of David's threshing floor where the temple was originally built. It was truly amazing to be on top of the city, in the place where so many things have happened, and the Bible tells us will happen. On...
Jerusalem, Israel billandsaraDear Friends, We arrived in Tel Aviv and took a taxi to the Olive Tree hotel, were we are staying till Monday. Our first meal in Jerusalem was great. They have more ways of serving vegetables and salads than I have ever seen. We spent today finding the Studio Apt. that we will be staying in and walking a bit in the Old City. Going into the Old City is like going into another world. We are still tired and expect to be fully on our feet tomorrow.
Jerusalem, Israel holylandDear Friends and Family, We have not written in a few days as we had to get ready to leave the apartment and go to Tiberias. We are now in Tiberias at the Royal Plaza Hotel ( the same one that the group is coming to). Our last week in Jerusalem was busy with saying goodbye to many people that we have come to know (especially the man at our favorite bakery), and packing up the things we bought. Monday we went to a few places we have been before. On Tuesday we attended a training given by a man...
