... assumed that Moscow would be cold, grey, grim, and possibly even have snow. Again, how wrong we were. We stepped off the plane and walked straight into blazing hot sunshine (33 degrees). This was surely the wrong country - a possible diversion to Egypt? Nope this was Moscow in the summer. A pleasant surprise.

... On exiting Paveletskaya station the roads were disorienting in the snow…and the dark….and the gauntlet of commuters that were criss-crossing our path what seemed like every step of the way.

We darted for cover inside a Starbucks and luckily found a very helpful employee who spoke good English and pointed us in the right direction.

... very good (athletics on the telly) so we'll hang out here a while. Ian's next recce through a security arch from the cafe (these are all over the city) uncovers a large 2 storey station waiting areas, which becomes home for the next 8hrs, we didn't plan this bit too well did we! We pulled into Moscow at 6am and decided to make the most of the early start by walking to Red Square before the tourist hoards arrived.
