So we have a new room and it is lovely. The room itself is on two floors with the bed up on a mezzanine floor. The balcony is just what we wanted with a view of the caldera and no-one passing in front. Today we went on a boat trip to the new volcano that is growing in the centre of the caldera. It is called Nea Kameni and first appeared above the water in197BC, so about 1500 years after the massive blow out that destroyed the Minoans. It has erupted several times since ...

... in Ios. I headed to the party bar and ordered a drink and some dinner - a delicious bowl of nachos so massive I couldn't finish it! I went down to the beach to watch the orange sun disappear beyond the ocean on the horizon. It was beautiful. Back up at the beach bar, I passed the time enjoying a cocktail and people watching, all the while keeping an eye out for Mitch and James but I never did spot them.

The shops display prices here which are numerically similar to those in Turkey - the only problem is that the euro is worth about 3 Turkish Lira - so we had to keep lid on the shopping ...

... most of the sun, pool and beach but thought we needed to do at least something while we were here. On our last day we did a boat tour to a few spots around Ios. Like everything it was a party speed boat with music and tanning beds out the back. We went to a private beach, went snorkeling and had lunch, then cruised around on the boat and saw a group of huge tuna…over 1 metre in length! Our super hot boat driver said that he’s never seen anything like it ...

This morning i got up at 9.15am, showered, dressed and went to the breakfast room. After eating i went back to the room and got ready for the day. I then went to reception, used the WiFi and meet some people that were heading into town. We caught public bus into town and then i went for a walk around. It was early in the morning – early for Ios, there were not many people around and not many shops opened. I had a look around ...
