Sukhothai, Thailand gutti... because this is where you discover a bit of the local's life
carrying huge bags on their shoulder to sell fruits and dry meat on the market

- Sukhothai was the first Thai capital in the 13th century for about 200 years before Ayutthaya, and hasn't been destroyed as much
Bike riding thru this was beautiful by this sunny day

We ate a beautiful Thai Green Curry

Tips to choose a good place : look out for where the locals order ! ;-)
Sukhothai, Thailand emma_et_anthony... and found a hundred little spiders climbing their way up and into my pack. Then some ants started biting me..... FINE! I'll go! There were more of them than me. The clouds coming in were very grey and threatened to unleash their fury on me. But I had my raincoat, which I finally remembered to bring with me, so I wasn't worried.I got back on my bike and rode around and around the park for another hour or so (my lazy ass needs the exercise) and then went ...
Sukhothai, Thailand travelbug15... did not get here at sunset but I would imagine the site to be quite spectacular at this hour!)

Definitely worth the trip! AS for its similarity to Ayutthaya... The temples were sooo different that it was definitely worth seeing both, plus it helped break up the trip north to Chiang Mai.

Sukhothai, Thailand richymariner... ride turned into a 45 min ride due to traffic and we had to show the driver where the Asha Guest House was. At this point I didn't care, just wanted to get in a room, eat and take a shower. I have accomplished all three and im in a much better mood. We are planning the next step of our trip which include the island of Koh Phangan and Phuket. We found out that during the water festival Phuket has a "Big Bike Festival" im stoked about that. Good night all.
Sukhothai, Thailand savageharmonyToday, I ate the spiciest meal I have had on the trip. I ordered Chiang Mai Sausage Salad. "You want sa-picy?" the restauranteur asked. "Yes, spicy," I said. I thought I knew what I was in for. Thai salads are always spicy and anything from Chiang Mai is usually spicy, too. I knew this combination would test my limits. I did not know it would almost kill me! I still finished it, though; it was ...
Sukhothai, Thailand jef_smi... bike paths, we reached our final ruin at Si Satchanalia via "the bridge of death." Okay, to be honest we didn't really need to cross this bridge to reach the final Wat, and, technically, I was the person who dubbed it the "bridge of death," but nevertheless it made for a hair raising ride, one which we are thankful to still be present. I mean.... it was perfectly safe Mr. Simpson. Off to Chiang Mai! Soli Deo Gloria! erik and christin
Sukhothai, Thailand erikandchristin... Our favorite of the Sukhothai temples was Wat Si Chum. This temple has a giant Buddha built into a tiny little space. The style of the whole thing is unlike a lot of the others, which might help to explain why we both liked it so much. By the end of the second day, I think even Tony, an avid temple and ruin enthusiast, was starting to get a little tired.
Sukhothai, Thailand disoriented... die.

As if this was not enough to give me a completely different perspective of this religion, another young monk without eyebrows joined us. "He used to be a drug addict", Kitti giggled. "He does not speak English", he added quickly, explaining why he shared the gossip in front of Eed, the other monk.

Eed smoked a cigarette and offered me one too. I said "no, thanks" in broken Thai and he smiled. Kitti asked me if I had a family and I told ...
Sukhothai, Thailand yorron... my theory is that this is strictly a northern problem, nothing to do with Laos or Burma or even central Thailand, where it would certainly be if it were a matter of clearing rice fields. Central Thailand has two growing seasons, northern Thailand only one. Now the fuzzy line separating northern Thailand from central goes from Phitsanulok to Mae Sot, except for Sukhothai, which it detours around, Sukhothai long ago allying itself ...
