... of the 20th century when Joseph Rock chose this place as his residence. He is a famous botanist who came here to study the plants of the Jade Dragon Mountain and he fell in love with the region, its people and its culture, and decided to live there. He lived in Yuhu village for 27 years. From 1922, he started a huge research work on the local Naxi minority; he took many photos and wrote many papers for the magazine National Geographic. I can't imagine how they'll build the super highway through here. We occasionally pass through broad, high alpine valleys and I have my first glimpse of Tibetan houses. They are stout, two story square boxes with open side gables, walls that slant inwards toward the roof, and brightly painted and decorated details ...

... of us wore shorts, when a group of Naxi women entered in the cumbersome national garb. Heading up to the beginning of the amazing track, several red rickshaws lined the path for those who didn't want to or just couldn't physically walk the 5.2km round trip. The distance to the Gorge didn't deter our keenness to uncover the story of the Tiger Leaping. What an amazing path the Chinese have built for tourists to witness this part of the environment. ...
