Next stop on our China itinerary - Lijiang. Famous for its cobbled streets, canal paths and narrow alleyways around the Old Town, it's quite a tourist attraction for people from the rest of China. Old Town itself is surrounded by the cheaper but far less aesthetically pleasing New Town which, as the name suggests, is much more modern. But once you're immersed in the hustle and bustle of Old Town it's easy to forget that the rest of ...

... We had two more days in the area, wandering, shopping, relaxing. We also visited another village in the mountains a couple hours away. Then we got the train back to Kunming and flew back home to Henan province. We put in a lot of miles in Yunnan - on trains and on foot, but the blue skies and sunshine really helped to refresh us and prepare us for the spring semester ahead. ... next day, they left the place way before us saying goodbye, however down to the river we met them again, “Itshi” forever!!

So on our way back from the hike, we decided to stay in Lijiang, tourist for tourist. At least the town is beautiful by night. On our way, we caught catch a grilled duck on the way (second round) and ran to a super friendly guesthouse.

... mention a line of motionless cars in the lane they were supposed to be in, what can be done? They can’t even reverse back because a few dozen other drivers who have realised that they are just as important and arrogant have mirrored this move. Thus everyone just stops and goes nowhere.

Mind you, this was probably a good thing too because a number of drivers clearly had no idea how to use gears ...
