... The wheels were particularly loud, with lots of high pitch squeals. There was a very distinct change in the country side, lush green hills, little rivers and streams. Mostly for me fresh air, and very little humidity. I am now settled into my hostel and sharing a dorm with a guy from Montreal of all things. The world really is a small place in the end. ... he's a lucky **** - going down all the way! Another minute and I continue my journey. Now I remember that the mountain pass is exactly the border between Yamanashi and Tokyo prefectures. Looking at the map - I have 3 more zigzags to make - it must be doable! Then 15 minutes later I'm super glad to see the roadsign - I'm grossing into Okutama city!!

... we got cold. Despite the traffic, we made it to the top at 4 am, taking about an hour in a half. Once at the summit, we were shocked at all of the infrastructure there was! There were several buildings and huts that served hot soup or drinks. There were souvenirs for sale, even vending machines!!! We each bought a Japanese flag and had the date stamped on it for remembrance. We found a seat inside a hut and opened our breakfast we had gotten from the mountain hut. I ...
