Part 1: Arrival, Hotel, Homestay

So I have been in Japan for two days now, the flight from Vancouver was long and extremely crowded but we still had personal tvs and two decent meals for the flight. It was cool I got to watch the Sex and the City movie in Japanese and amazingly enough understood it . I also saw the movie Forbidden Kingdom with Jackie Chan and Bruce Li, I thought it was cool that there was a monkey king. I arrived at Tokyo Airport at around 2:30 Japan time. It was confusing finding our way to our next flight ...

A fish out of water

... back into that calmness of familiarity. But does the fish really know what's outside the deep, dark blue of his home until he hops out for a peek, or gets caught by a hook? I'm sure I've swallowed the bait, hook and all by now. But I think the less I've struggled to get free of this feeling of awkwardness, the easier it's become to adjust to it.

Oh and on a side-note: I've managed to make my very first, solo-sushi this evening. Freakin' delicious!

Onsen (Hot Bath)

... be slowing down on the videos I post. I got my internet bill, and despite how freakin slow the speed is, I guess they took record of how many bites I sent (or received). Yea, no more $100 bills. So some things might just have to wait for a 'welcome back' presentation, and the such.

As for the hike I hinted at, I'll wait until I get the pictures up before I talk about it. It was AMAZING. It even compares with Alberta's hikes, albeit a bit more dangerous...
My First 1/2 Marathon

... by foot. Now, whether or not it was a sport, or whether they claimed bragging rights is a different matter (I'm no historian), but I have to admit that I'm ready for the next one.

But really....doing what I did again today, and then twice that, is something I should at least train for this time. My time was 1 hour and forty minutes. Two 60 and 64 year old men beat my time by about 20 minutes. Now there's motivation.
Costume Party, ID and Cream

... I wanted it...but i found out that those types of toys cost $500. Anyways at around 7 am, Kan drove me to Kanayama so I got home at about 8 am and went to sleep. I woke up at around 1 pm. Dinner was fish, salad, daikon, broccoli and rice. I talked more with my host family and for once all my host sisters were around so we hung out until around 9 where i started getting tired but even now can't really sleep, too many things to think about...

Decent Chinese Food, Wasted Time, Mister Donuts?

... It was the one called "Attention, Please" oh the irony...Anyways we also went for dinner, I wanted pasta but somehow we ended up going for Chinese. I was extremely skeptical...but the food wasn't half bad. No bbq pork though :(, only sweet and sour. I had this pork and egg chow fun (it wasn't mediocre!), some wontons (those were okay...oddly they were served dry, with no sauce ...

Seijin Shiki Preparations

... which really is coming up fast! Saturday I woke up early and went to Osu street! I first went to Komehyo and found a naka juban that fit perfectly inside my furisode. What's more it was only $25 (as opposed to $100-$200)! I went into a few stores to search for zori but did not find anything. Just when I was giving up hope I found a store that had extra large sizes of the zori, but extremely expensive...At least I knew what size to ask for! At the next store I asked and they ...

New Year's Family Dinner, Kimono searching

... _^. No origami unfortunately, only kirigami. Oh well, still was worthwhile I suppose? No pictures allowed though. We went to the supermarket and it was there that I saw how mochi was made. They actually pound the rice with a hammer. So that was pretty cool, then I went to Osu with Roxy and Emily, didn't really find anything and didn't have time to look at kimonos, and even though I left at 6 to get home, I was late for dinner. It was the big family dinner too! I still feel really ...
