... Hiroshima is now a thriving city. Our hotel was in a central location and we were able to find good food. Check Linus out cooking us some Japanese BBQ! Awesome! Oh and the shopping, well, I'm just trying to keep it under control! The next day we went to Miyajima. Miyajima is an island near Hiroshima, a 10 min. ferry ride. This place is best known for a Torii shrine in the water. Maybe you've seen this before. We arrived in the morning and were able to walk and see ...

I don't know whether it was in aid of a special occasion or they are there all of the time, but we found our trip to the hotel well worth it. There was a Christmas display (!), a tunnel of lights, a fairy garden, a Cinderella carriage and loads of others. They were all so cool and we spent such a nice time looking around. We had to tear ourselves away to get the last shuttle bus back to town ...

... but the smell was pretty overwhelming. It all felt a little contrived and set up for tourists, rather than natural phenomenon.

    Jigoku Mushi Kobo

A quick walk down the hill past some toilets with devil horns on the ladies' and men's signs, and some very colourful posters for what we can only imagine is the local drag show, took us to the Hell Steaming Workshop, Jigoku Mushi Kobo.

Here, you could try a drink of hot ...

... resort, with over one hundred million litres of near boiling water gushing from more than three thousand springs each day, harnessed for use by homes for swimming pools, heating and medicinal purposes, as well as the dozens of public and private baths available.

As our bus arrived in the thermal area, huge spouts of steam were visible in all directions. We headed off to one Onsen, which I was determined to enjoy - despite a very reluctant Arthur dragging behind!
