Today we explore the Wachau Vally region, renowned for its stunning landscape featuring the deep valley gorge, quaint villages, old castles perched high on outcrops and extensive orchards and vineyards on terraced sites up the valley side. A highlight of our trip was the rich and varied autumn colour in the valley. Our first stop was at the little village of Durnstein with its population of about 900 people. ... tour which introduced the picturesque village on the Danube and a Wine tasting in which 3 wines were given to customers. The common consensus was that the middle wine - the riesling was the better although a few liked the last wine - a red wine. The village was just so pretty though and it seemed amazing that people actually lived here.

My top advice is to walk to the end of the village and enjoy the view of the Wachau Valley.

I had read that the restaurant was a 4 to 5 star treasure and the reviews were spot on. We had a five course meal complete with prosecco and apricot juice as an apertif ...

We are in Horn for the next week and there seems to be SO much to do - too much in fact. Not. Not only is there nothing local to do, we are here on May Day where nothing is open (even our hotel is part closed!!)

The weather has been sunny one moment and then thunderstorms the next! I watched the village community put up the Maypole trees in the main ...
