Arriving in Kyushu

... The next morning I wandered the side streets and lanes, and found myself at Yusida Shrine, welcomed by a Nandi on the left (later learned there is also a sacred cow/patron god in Shinto)

Then to the blast of the main streets, and ticket on to Yufuin. (I fly out of FUK, so will explore more of the city when I return).

Lives in luggage, again.

... like? I have no friggin' idea. I've been trying to research it on the internet but have come up with very little as to what kind of life we'll be living there. Which is one of the reasons I've decided to revive the travel blog and maybe somewhere down the line, someone else is moving to Salalah and will actually have some idea of what it's like before they get there. Here's hoping it's good!

"ROBOSQUARE!" (Robots in Japan!)

As I reached the top of the escalator, the place came into view. Robots ahead!...

-----
ROBOSQUARE ENTRANCE:

Ceiling-length glass displays housed vintage robots. I went right for TMSUK-03 and TMSUK-04 (pronounced, "TIM-SUCK" - insert childish joke here:)

Built in 1998, TMSUK-03 is a short little guy with a big head, two arms with grippers, and two tractor treads for locomotion. It was the world’s first experiment robot controlled remotely by ...

Won't You Take Me to Retro Town?

... Mojiko also became an important terminal for both the railroad and cruise ships. So it's full of Meiji-era Western-style buidings, mostly built in grand style between 1910 and 1920. The view of the waterfront and the bridge across the strait is just beautiful. There's a nice little railroad museum, a couple of small shopping plazas, and a new hotel with a striking modern design. I think Mojiko deserves ...

... to try, but even after eating we knew it was fish but that was as far as it went!! One of the Japanese eating at the stall offered us some of his gyoza (little parcels of chicken) and we enjoyed it so much that we ordered some of our own - we weren't expecting about 10!!! Absolutely stuffed and it ended up being the most expensive meal in Japan, ironic as it was a street stall, but the ...

... me. One of them took pity on me and led me through the posh restaurant/bar to the best vantage point, where I got good views of the tower and the baseball stadium...for free! In the afternoon, I got the metro to Ohori-koen and had a pleasant walk around a huge lake, before going to the ruins of Fukuoka-jo where there were good views of the tower/hotel/stadium on the horizon, where I`d just come from. There was still a fair amount of ...

... on our way. I never liked ramen in the states, but the stuff they served me at the ramen house in Fukuoka was pretty good, if in need of a little kick. After all this we decided it was getting a bit late to head out into the countryside to see a temple. We grabbed a taxi and headed back to hang out in the room for awhile. There our conversation took an odd turn, and I saw a really dark side of Josh. I had been talking about my concerns with K.L.I. and coming to Korea, as I have to ...

... had rights to privacy), in Fukuoka the eyes seemed to be everywhere, and the people seemed much more joyful in the trains. Arriving at Fukuoka Tenjin station, a new world opened up to my eyes. A world of fascinating restaurants and a multitude of shops with very pretty displays. In a way, it was a good mix of China town and the posh streets of Paris. Atsuko-san first steered me to a restaurant, as we both were pretty hungry, as we both ...
