Today another shopping day downtown.
First stop, and eye doctor for Amy's father. There the girls working there loved qiqi, one even gave qiqi a birthday present, an embroidery that she made herself.
Later some more shopping and then after dinner, qiqi visits a traditional Chinese medicine pharmacy and doctor.
... Vanke. Great visit to her office, lunch, their apartment, and then back to the train station after 5 hours. I walk around to the area malls and watch the Shenzhen youth culture teeming in the streets. Get back to Guangzhou and its too late for dinnner with my colleague so I walk up the street and find some $.80 DVDs of recent run movies the girls will enjoy.
Shenzhen, Guangdong, China mauro08... it has left on it for...well you can always expect the unexpected here, so I'm saving for any zany moment that may or may not come. Instead I asked to go to the school's office to try and write Cedric an email. I feel awful for not being able to talk with him. Having no one to talk with has been incredibly difficult. I have no contact with anyone I know. No internet is strangely scary. I never thought that missing internet would psychologically make me feel so ...
Dongguan, Guangdong, China onceuponabeatDay 1 - February 7th - Chinese New Year. Hey, it's the year of the rat and I'm a rat (no not that kind of a rat!) and so I had to bring in the new year in a proper fashion. That meant last night at a club called Dusk til Dawn and a few beers. Beers is not the cheaper part of HK where in the clubs a drinkable Chinese Tsingtao will set you back around seven or eight bucks. The band played such classics as 'Sweet Home ...
Hong Kong, China supergIn a word, Hong Kong is marvelous. It is modern, organized and efficient. It is confident. It is clean, as clean as Switzerland (littering, spitting or postering fetches at HK$1,500 fine--around $200--tossing garbage into the harbour will cost you five grand.) It is Louis Vuitton, Prada and Gucci. It is Rolex and Sony and Nikon. And Lexuses. It ...
Hong Kong, China superg... there were a gazillion people around celebrating and cheering like they had never seen fireworks before (but I think this happens pretty regularly here). There are a few other things that we should have done, but we just love the city so much that we didn't want to go outside... We'll do that stuff on our next trip... Now off to shop some more! (seems like that's all we've been doing.... )
Hong Kong, China koehlers... is part of China as the old 99 year lease expired in 1991 giving the Special Administrative Regions (SARs...birth place of the outbreak) back to China. However, its kind of like how Puerto Rico is part of the U.S.A. --- kind of, but not really. For example, most anyone from the west can fly into Hong Kong without a pre-arranged visa, but to get into China, you need to go to the China Embassy and apply for your visa (think about that for a second... we ...
Hong Kong, China mjlankers... your tolerance of heat that determines the temperature at which you cook. It feels like I've been eating nonstop since I got here and I've actually been telling people I can't meet them to eat otherwise a meal will be generously sprung on you at any hour of the day. If I carried on eating 3 or 4 dinners a day I wouldn't fit back on the plane to England! Now, there's a thought. Suffice to say, the food's great and I'm thoroughly enjoying this integral part of life in China.
Dongguan, China robjstaples... interesting, some are rubbish, and sometimes the TV screen goes blank. This isn't a desparate hardship, but it's been noticed that this normally happens during news programmes. You can only suppose that this is censorship because there are certain stories people aren't meant to see which is a reminder where you are.
