Lots of relaxing, and some rain

To sum up my last few days in Thessaloniki: sleep, eating, a little stroll, more eating, more sleeping - it's been a tough life!! Lucky for me, my roommate was an Australian backpacker named Kellie. We got along really well, and kept each other company for the last 3 days. We were both a little tired of travelling (I know you must all be rolling your eyes reading this, but it does get tough to constantly move around), so we took advantage of our semi-private hotel room to sleep in late every ...

A flight to the Metéora Monasteries

... an incredibly rugged valley until we reached Kalambaka.

The rocky outcrops that the Metéora Monasteries are built on look completely different then the surrounding countryside. It was cool to see them get closer and closer as we approached. We flew over the region and then landed in Kalambaka where a driver and guide met us.

We went to Great Metéoroan first, which is the largest and the tallest ...

... we had a row about it and I stormed off thinking if i had to get down the mountain I was off as it was about 5 miles! So I looked around and Ian had gone he was no longer behind me I thought that he had left me and gone to the other monastry so when this car pulled up at the side of me and the man asked me did I want a lift down the mountain I was not going to argue. Also this man only had one leg so I thought that it would be quite safe turns out he was ...

... ranges.

Despite what other English-speaking tourists & ourselves agreed seemed a disorganised start to the day, the Greeks remained fairly laid-back about proceedings, and we relaxed into what we guessed was the norm for them!

Once we arrived at the ruins of Delphi, amid some wonderful scenery up & down mountainous roadways, with huge valleys appearing at every turn, we were once again blown away by the ...

... were there which I thought was funny) and got to see a beautiful building as well. There was also a museum that had beautiful jewels, crowns, and bibles. When we had spent a sufficient amount of time in the monastery (and taken enough pictures), we made our way to the next monastery (but of course were sidetracked taking pictures again).

When we got to the next monastery, we had to climb up a TON of stairs, and when we got to the top, we were relieved ...

Daytrip to Meteora

... monastery we visited was Agia Triada. As soon as I stepped from the car I had to stop to sunk in the view of the jutting rocks topped by the holy places which seem unreachable by human beings. Then I took my camera and started snapping pictures. There was some other interesting presence on the hill of a few mountain goats that immediately became targets of the tourist cameras. When the ...

... We soon passed a memorial that marked the place where Oedipus killed his father, then we continued on through Dauleia (ancient Daulis), another important town of mythology, and saw signs to the ancient acropoleis of several more towns. The drive definitely extended my knowledge of the geography of this part of the country. When we joined up with the "main" road, we hit roadwork, "erga" in Greek. The good news is, Greece is improving its ...
