There is normally a very, very long cable car ride from here back to Italy, but now it is closed for maintenance. We rode up to the Aiguille du Midi peak and it lightly snowed. I again suffered from being at this altitude and was a bit "off" for the remainder of the day. This was unfortunate as we were yet to drive to L'Alpe d"Huez.
What a day to arrive. It is pouring rain and it turns ...
... way but we did not find it. I fell in love with the cute little marmots that were scampering over the high alpine slopes. We saw very few cars going in either direction - that should have given us some clues as to how far we were off the beaten track. The resorts in this area are quiet with the winter season having finished and the summer not yet in full swing.

... Most of northern France seems to be just acres of farmland and wind turbines - no wonder the farmers run the country! However as we got round the far side of Lyon, The Alps made their first appearance and the first Italian cities appeared on the road signs, (Turin about 500km). Our hotel is not far from the border with Italy, but as we have to go round the mountains to cross over, it will be about 120km or 90 minutes in the ...

Footnote from Steve - the ball thing was like the thing you put a hamster in and then dangle on a piece of string, if you ever come here don't do it!! (Les - hope you hear the emotion on this video)
Off to the high mountains in the morning stopping in a caravan at Interlarken for 3 nights, not sure what the internet will be like if at all so we may be off air for 3 ...
