Marrakesh, Marrakech-Tensift-Al Haouz, Morocco carivergaHad an ok nights sleep on our bunk bed feel like I am about seven again! Woke up to an amazing breakfast of juice, pancakes, fresh bread, jams and local breads with coffee it was so tasty. Mohammad gave us the info about how to get to the train station. So got ready and went to get a small taxi to the station to get our tickets for Sunday to go to Fez the taxi driver told us it takes 7 hours ahhh perswaded Ian though to get first class as I read a book about ...
Marrakech, Morocco traceybelleGot up at 4am and got to the airport ok in the taxi the hotel where we stayed is really half a mile away from the airport you can see the planes taking off and the taxi cost us 20 euro they know how to rip you off around here. I am excited about the change of scenery and also about going somewhere that is hot I cant wait to get my summer clothes back on again! I hate it on aeroplanes though when people in front of you put the seats down, I know that you can but there is such a ...
Marrakech, Morocco traceybelle... his four wives and 24 concubines! We also viewed the Court of Honour, where crowds of people gathered to beg for the vizier’s mercy. Over the palace’s history, the place was looted several times – especially after the vizier died – so the palace is no longer furnished. Still, the embellishments speak for themselves – we were blown away by how intricate and detailed the rooms were.

After Bahia Palace, we ...
Marrakech, Morocco annalisamurray... a smoke-free corner of a café or restaurant has been nearly impossible. We thought Iceland was bad, until we got to Portugal – and then we got to Spain – but Morocco? Beats them all. Alas. I’m generally fine with people making their own smoking choices – and in the past, have been known to have one or two myself – but the second-hand smoke everywhere/all the time thing does get old… For us Americans, it’s like reverting back ...
Marrakech, Morocco annalisamurray... stepping daintily around a dead chèvre (goat), we found the little sucker (a micro hidden in a cubby hole in a clay/straw wall) and... I do believe Wales now has a new geoaddict! ;D

That night (alas, my last in dear Morocco!), we headed for the legendary "Djemaa el Fna" Square for a sunset ...
Marrakech, Morocco globalgirl... dancers continually rotating around the tables and soliciting tips. There were 2 cute girls and the old warhorse who was more talented than the other two (balancing a tray of candles on her head the entire time) but not so pretty to look at. We felt sorry for her, but not sorry enough to tip. Meanwhile the service didn't match up to the posh surroundings, with the concept of a fully cooked pasta seeming to escape them, as did what a vegetarian meal ...
Marrakech, Morocco mvenkat007... sex, which meant that more than once, I found myself alone in a public bathroom with Moroccan men who seemed surprised to see me there. Not fun. Also, many of the toilets were the kind where you squat over a hole, which luckily I got used to using when we were in Japan. I knew to always have my own toilet paper and hand sanitizer and just hold my breath. All in all, we had a truly fantastic time and enjoyed immersing ourselves in a new culture and meeting many new and interesting people.
Marrakech, Marrakech, Morocco humanetraveler... a new plan of attack. As is our want, we discussed several hundred alternatives, but with Andrew and Leo in the mix we eventually came to a suitable set of conclusions. We all agreed that an entire day of sitting in the 'salon de the' was untenable and that even if the clouds and rain never let up we should at least make an effort to see something. Our many guidebooks suggested that if we made our way back to the new town we could either rent a car or catch a grand taxi that would ...
