Heading to the west coast now, about 5-6 hours driving. Driving through the desert, nothing in sight except some cactus plants. We only stopped for fuel, a snack and drink. mostly drove all day, though mountains of rock no plants growing on them, quite unusual, then back in complete sandy desert. Finally found a little restaurant called the Green Flash on the beach front - so were able to watch the surfers and people walking, jogging, skating, skateboarding and roller blading. ... starring cats and dogs, pigs, ducks, emus and kangaroos, and some other animals that I can't remember.... Not exactly what you'd expect at SeaWorld, but it was an entertaining show. The things they got cats (many rescued from animal shelters) to do were phenomenal! Climbing ropes, walking tightropes, opening doors... pretty cool stuff. SeaWorld has a good Arctic exhibit, and we saw some beautiful beluga whales, a regal polar bear, and a gargantuan walrus ...
... of us (Mike, Amanda and Erika) felt safer swimming around the bluff to get out of the water at the beach. It was a rough swim and a great workout, but we made it! We swam by the seals and even had a couple jump in and swim behind us for a while.
