Nea Moudania, P.O. Box 132 Nea Moudhania, Halkidiki, Macedonia Region, Greece
... ago. The town even has a museum and research establishment in which are displayed prime examples of the preserved forest. The tree trunks look exactly as they might have when alive but are now solid rock. When they are cut through they still have the colours of the wood and the age rings. If you come to Lesvos this is a "must see". The village of Sigri is situated in a large bay enclosed by an island so offers tremendous shelter from the prevailing winds. The only problem ...
Neos Marmaras, Greece chickensafloatThe train to Thessaloniki was great almost as comfortable as German trains but for a while i thought we were going to have an issue with our passes, the ticket collectors kept checking and checking and took them away eventually he brought them back and moved us to 1st class and here the comfort begins we were in a carriage with three seats each and we were able to lie down - i finally got a couple of hours sleep it was great. We made it safely to Thessaloniki (Sunday ...
Thessaloniki, Greece reecoops77First Stop: Philippi This is the site of Lydia's baptism. We walked to the traditional site, however, it is most likely not the location of the Jew's meeting place because we had to walk through an ancient Jewish cemetery. If the Jews walked through the cemetery, they would have become unclean. We were given time to take pictures, and it was fun! The river was ...
Thessaloniki, Greece vagabond07... that I expected. It was decorated with scenes of the martyrs and the various ways they were killed. It was interesting to see the many ways to kill someone slowly and painfully. Another interesting scene in the narthex was a depiction of Alexander the Great. The scene didn't celebrate his great victories or power. The scene showed his skeleton. The point of the scene is that no matter what you do on this earth, you are merely dust being blown away ...
Thessaloniki, Greece vagabond07So... I then finally arrived in Thessaloniki! I had been there once before (April 2006), but this time it was SO much warmer! It was a shock to my poor Norwegian body.. Anyway, I was there to participate in a Brokerage Event arranged by the IRC Help-Forward, in connection to a fair called "Infosystem". Lots of meetings, presentations, lunches etc. Interesting. Stayed at Holiday Inn ...
Thessaloniki, Greece ~cat~7.8.06 Mt Olympus It was time to leave Nikiti Camping, we're reluctant to go as we're finding it so relaxing and we've had an opportunity to catch up such things as washing linen and making space in the camper with a big clean out of all the things we've never used. We were intending to go to the caves in Amfipolis but ended up taking the scenic ...
Past Ierissos, Greece jennykelly... and drizzled with buckets of sweet honey syrup. We've had lots of it and lots of different varieties of it. tell us a bit about it and their experiences there, this is very helpful or us. Birgitte and Nikolaus, a Swedish and Greek couple, respectively, gave us a lot of valuable information about the EU and countires like Estonia and Turkey wanting to be part of it. Estonia is part of the EU but has not ...
Sithonia Peninsula, Nikitas, Greece jennykelly... is Greece, no speed cameras or radar traps, it's all pretty casual really. We've been in Nikiti Camp Ground for 3 nights now and we're working on Greek time. We get up at about 9 or 10 if we feel like it, go for a swim, eat fruit, drink coffee and beer, chat with the locals, go for a bike ride, followed by a swim and a shower, eat, drink some more, teach the kids English and in no time at all it's midnight. The children don't go ...
Nikiti, Greece jennykellyOne of the best holidays of my life. Except that I finally could retake my breath after finishing the university, I got a little tan, tasted the best ice-cream in the world in "ice-dream", and visited the "Turtle island", went to the water park - for the first time in my life, and every day I walked on ...
Polichrono, Macedonia Region, Greece lyonette... We were tourists with our cameras and notebooks having a tour during their church. We even walked up to the front and stood there and had to listen to information. The Greek Orthodox service is very carefree, interrupted, and laid back, but I personally still felt terrible and disrespectful. Thank goodness that after that we went back to the hotel for dinner. We were all so tired and worn out anyway that not much that went through our ears stayed in our heads anymore.
