... no overt symptoms of withdrawal seem to be plaguing us, but it's only a matter of time before we yearn for a baguette, or reminisce about the people we met and the amazing sights we've seen. In the not-too-distant future, we're hoping to write an "epilogue" for this blog in an effort to capture our thoughts and impressions of the many special moments we shared together, and with friends.

... swimming in the water. I am in the hotel now updating my blog. They claim that Daytona Beach is the most famous in the world. It may be the most famous, but it has nothing on Australias beaches.
It was nice, however the sand was very hard. The water was very warm, probably as warm as an indoor pool.
I'm about to go to bed. Tomorrow we are going for a swim in the beach in the morning, having short look around and then continuing North To Savannah.
... lovely surprise. We might catch up with them later next week.
We had a lot of driving to do that day as we planned to be by Loretta that evening so our rest and lunch stops were kept to a minimum. We arrived in Madison Virginia just after 20.00 in the last of day light. Loretta met us at a gas station and then we followed her to her log cabin in the woods. It is absolutely magic in the forest of Virginia.
... stopped to visit w/ our dear friends Karen & Peter..
Camp Serrao was was so enjoyable that we ended up spending the entire day ...
... I have been upgraded. Ok, better be good. The hotel looks dated but seems situated on the beach. And it definitely was an upgrade. Though I have no idea what my room was suppose to be, I had a 6th story room with a full beach view, the room was large with a kitchen. I walked out onto the balcony, it was too dark to see, but I could clearly hear the ocean. I prodded the spring loaded door open with a chair and settled in for bed. Sleeping to the sound of the ocean is always ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Ocean Sands Hotel Daytona Beach
Our regular hotel sustained damage during the hurricanes this year, so my family had to change locations for our Thanksgiving vacation at the last minute. After browsing the Internet information (with the requirement of an indoor heated pool), we decided on the Ocean Sands. We were excited to be able to rent the Penthouse Suite.....until we arrived! The room was definitely NOT up to our usual standards, although the price was just as high. The carpet stunk, the beds were lumpy, the tubs were nasty, and the indoor pool was scary. The staff was rude and uncaring. If we could have obtained a room for 7 anywhere else we would have left. We even had another guest enter our room with a pass key! The elevators were being repaired daily. It was, without a doubt, the WORST hotel that we have ever stayed in. This place would have NEVER been full during the Turkey Rod Run if it were not for the hurricane damage in Daytona.
I cannot begin to explain all the terrible things at this hotel, so I'll sum it up... dirty, moldy, unsafe, unprofessional staff... just a terrible hotel to stay in.
The refridgerator was rusty, there was sour milk in it. The middle of the bed was caving in. When we walked in the room, the balcony door was open. There was urine all over the toilet seat. The walls had terrible patch jobs. and there were still some holes in them. The owner's dog was walking around in the lobby. They tell you that all sales are final, but if you try hard enough, you will get a refund. We would not even stay there one night!! This was the most disgusting hotel I have ever seen! Before you check into a hotel, ask to see a room!
if you don't want to pay much, stay at ocean sands, because cheap is all you will find there. oh yeah we found that the people working there to to learn some people skills. rudeness and filthy rooms was there foretay.
VERY RUDE SERVICE!
I would never stay in this Ocean Sands hotel ever again. I was VERY SHOCKED at how rude the owner is. She would not honor the price quote that I received over the phone when I had called them. She kept saying that the person I spoke to would never have told that price since "she is her employee!" Instead of checking with the person I spoke with, she insisted that the person never said it- end of story! I could not believe the type of "customer service" that this woman was giving me. I noticed that she was also very rude to the customers ahead of me.
We made a reservation for this hotel and showed up early for check-in. Guy at front desk was very nice, said that the room would not be ready until 3:00 and did the paperwork. Charged my credit card right away, instead of waiting until in the morning, I thought that was weird. We started looking around and I was disgusted. The indoor pool looked disgusting, cigarette butts floating in it. The outdoor pool was not much better. Went to go get in our car and drive around and the automatic door would not open and we were told to pull it open and close it behind us. My husband and I went to the car and laughed and decided to go somewhere else, no matter what the cost. We went to Ocean Walk first, but no availability. It looked really nice. They told us to go to the Adams Mark next door and we had a nice stay there. The guy at the front desk of Ocean Sands gave us a refund with no hassle and we will lose the $10 from Hotelkingdom for the deposit. I did not care if he charged us for the night, my family was not going to stay there. Do not go buy the pictures you see on the internet. Do not believe that it was refurbished a few years ago. And if you go there, please do not let your kids swim in the pools unless you have your own chemical testing kit.
Worst Experience Ever
My husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon...this hotel and the rude manager/owner ruined our entire trip. We took 15 pictures of the room and cracked pool as evidence that this place is terrible. The room was disgusting, and when we went down to check out early and demand our money back, the manager yelled at us and wouldn't refund our money. When she realized that we would not give up easily, she finally gave us a refund but charged us $50 as a refund fee. She stated that this was their policy. When we spoke to another person at the desk, he said to fight it because it was not their policy. The manager and her husband own this hotel. We have no other recourse for our ruined trip except to report them and their terrible customer service to the Better Business Bureau.
It was our first vacation to the beach as a family-the beach was great, the hotel was horrible. The rooms do not look like what is shown in the pictures, at all. I was scared to go barefooted in our rooms because there was tiny pieces of glass everywhere (after finding out the hard way, twice) and the "kitchen" 3 ft. across from the bathroom was rusted and filthy. The sink had left over food and other items I don't know in the drain(didn't want to know). Besides the indoor pool being the color green, and the maids having "guests" in our rooms (came back up to the room after going to the beach, to find two men in there) the employees were rude and no help. My husband went down to the front desk to ask for change, and the man behind the counter asked him if "he was looking for a date". To top it off, my son (8 yrs. old) was with him. You couldn't pay me enough money to stay there again. Oh yeah, we had to sleep on top of the sheets because there was something in between the sheets (insect or ?) biting us.
What a dump
We visited this hotel during Easter weekend. What a dump! The photos of this place online and on their brochures are a total misrepresentation. The room was dirty, walls and ceiling were stained, furniture was disgusting, refridgerator was loud and dirty, windows were badly stained. Pool was brown with pigeons swimming in it. I wouldn't stay here again if they gave me a room for free. We've stayed in some pretty bad hotels, but this was a horrible experience. I realize it was inexpensive, but my advice is to pay a few bucks more and stay somewhere else.....
my stay there was great. the staff is nice. the rooms are very nice full kitchen and the view is wonderful, it will take your breathe away.
especially at night when the moon hits the water. very homey.
