Nice room, small beach
The suite was lovely, big and clean. We arrived at 1pm and they let us into our room even though checkin wasn't until 4pm. The beach was a disappointment small, rocky and full of weeds. The bar shuts at 9pm which considering there is nothing else within walking distance is a bit disappointing.
Nice Place, great deal for the price! I would come back.
Great Place for the Price! I have seen some of the other reviews and I think people have to keep in mind what your are getting. Condo's are not a 4 or 5 star hotel. This is one of the few large condo's in the Key Largo area, so if you want a kitchen and washer/dryer this is the prime choice.
Our group had two of the two bedroom units with ocean view. We were there over Christmas 2003 and it was probably only 80-90% full, estiamted by the parking lots.
The rooms are reasonably clean, and well equipped. Most of the rooms are Ocean View and the views were good. The area was quite. The pool is nice. It is supposed to be the largest in the upper keys, but it will fill up especially on Christmas Day when 90% of dive operators were closed. We rented kayaks and used the tennis courts. Plan on a wait for the equipment and they will not let kayaks out in moderate winds.
FYI's: Their is no daily maid service, and only one maid service per 7 day stay done mid rental week. This didn't bother us at all. Only one bathroom has a hair dryer.
We booked on expedia and they had some problems entering it into thier computer. Customer Service was sometimes good, sometimes just ok. I saw other reviews that said they gave internet bookings a hard time. I don't think we experienced that, and we did get top floor rooms. They knew we had a baby and never filled the room next to us.
What a deal!
What a deal! Full kitchen with everything you need, washer & dryer ( no need to look for a wash house or take home a ton of dirty clothes ), not to mention the view from our Building 4 room. Deep sea fishing and snorkling within minutes although if you love walking the beach, you are out of luck in the Keys. I would rate it a 9 on a scale of 1-10.Thanks for a great time!
Think Twice: Are you willing to sacrifice service and quality for space?
Our expierience at Ocean Pointe Suites, Key Largo, all in all was not good. We arrived one day early, and the staff was nice enough to add a night onto our reservation and they did not make us move rooms the next day. My major complaint is the cleanliness of the unit. We stayed in building one, at the far end of the property. The exterior of the complex was nice and clean, but the story was much different after we turned the key. The carpet was nasty and old, the baseboards were scratched and damaged, the roof in the bathroom was leaky, and the view was terrible. We later found out that the rooms are individually owned and rented out to guests. Since they are owned by individuals, the maintenence staff cannot repair any damaged things. We also found out that there is no daily maid service, which is a definite minus. To be frank, I would not stay in that hotel again.
Great place- very good price/quality ratio.
I was a little apprehensive picking out a non brand name hotel having not ever stayed there, but the Ocean Point turned out to be above average. It is not DIRECTLY on the beach (in fact most of the buildings are somewhat far away) but the view is still very nice. I stayed in an 'Ocean Front' room which had a kitchen, master bedroom, 2 full bathrooms and 2 balconies for a total of $150/night. As far as the staff politness, I think I witnessed about a 70-30 percent rude to hospitable ratio of people in the Key's. That is- most of the locals are just downright obnoxious- so just lay back, take in the views and ignore them. In any case, the Ocean Point was clean, had large rooms and not just a hole in the wall hotel.
Rude, poor service
We were very pleased with the suite and the location however the level of service was awful. We had to wait until 7pm until we could enter the room as it hadn't been cleaned (despite being told twice during our 4 hour wait that the cleaner was in the room). It ended up being cleaned by the receptionist; after we turned down the offer of being moved into a LOWER standard room. Not once did we receive an apology.
On checking out we accidentily left a drawer full of clothes behind however when we phoned two days later we were told that they had been thrown away.
On the whole we found the establishment was badly run and the staff very unhelpful and rude. So much so it leaves me bitter to think that we had to pay for this so-called service.
The reviews helped us decide to try Ocean Pointe suites Key Largo. We were very pleased with the accomodation, very clean, well stocked. Very good price for a condo, very practical if you have a family. Building 5 is very close to everything (pool and breakfast and beach). Suggest asking for 3 or 4 th floor for better view. Worth every penny!
Extremely Disappointing Experience
My family arrived for a six day vacation at Ocean Pointe Suites on June 14th, 2003. We arrived early (2:30PM) and were told that the room would not be ready until the 4:00 PM check-in time. We returned at 4:30 PM and the room still was not ready.
When we entered the condo we discovered it was dirty and poorly maintained. The wall paper was peeling. The arms of the chair in the livingroom was so badly soiled even I would not it in it. The hide-a-bed sofa was so woreout the cushions had holes in it. There was also red spatter on the base boards and a flower vase where someone had either thrown up or thrown something else around the room. There was only one small TV and no VCR as in the advertisements. The coffee maker did not even work.
Also disappointing was how the advertisements portrayed the beach and ocean view. The beach is tiny with rocks and weeds in the water. The ocean view is about 50 yards from the beach (and we were in building 5, the closest building) looking out over a swampy area that is heavily trashed with beer bottles, cans and paper bags.
Nice & Accomodating
We stayed at the Ocean Pointe Suites in Key Largo April 15 - 23, 2003. We arrived in our 2BR suite at 10pm and basically unpacked and went to bed. In the a.m., we looked around and noticed the carpet worn, the wallpaper peeling, etc. I called the front desk and told them that my room did not meet my expectations. They had me look at another room at 1pm, after it had just been vacated and cleaned. This room was very nice. We then moved to the other room. I highly recommend building 5. The staff was courteous and the grounds were very clean.
Great Fishing/Diving Location!
My husband, two small daughters and I stayed at Ocean Pointe Suites for 7 nights and had a wonderful time. Because we live in Miami and are so close to Key Largo, we were able to compare other rental properties. This one by far is the best one we have found for an all around good time. My husband is able to fish both out on the reefs and because it is so close to the Tavernier Creek, he is also able to fish in the back country. My daughters loved the beach and the pool is the largest we have found in Key Largo. The environment is quiet, but fun and the diving is great! The particular condo we got had absolutely breathtaking ocean views. We found this to be a great little get away from the big city hussle!

... expensive, has its own beach with a jetty and kayaks for hire, palm trees, hammocks and views over gorgeous, calm sea. It was right near the John Pennekamp marine reserve, famous for snorkelling and a reef six miles off. We joined a trip on a catamaran to see for ourselves. Unfortunately the wind got up and visibility in the choppy water was very low, so it wasn't quite like in the brochures. But we enjoyed puddling around, looking at ...

Before we did anything we needed to fill up with petrol. Gas stations were plentiful on the way down so it was no surprise within 1 mile of leaving Tavernier we were pulling up along side the pumps. Have you ever wondered why Americans call petrol gas? In science I learned that there are 3 states of matter; solid, liquid and gas. Gas is a vapour. Petrol is liquid. However ...
