... considering there weren't many buses travelling to our chosen destination that following Monday evening, so getting it all booked nice and early meant we could relax and enjoy our long weekend here in Floripa. Here in Floripa, the city is spread out over a lush green and lake-spotted island and also across the bridge back to the continent... It is on this continent side that Vania lives, a 15-minute bus ride from the main downtown area just across the bridge on ...

Our first stop in Brazil was Florianopolis in the south of the country. Floripa (as known by the Brazilians) is an island with a big lake in the middle, surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean. We were staying in Lagoa de Conceicao, located east of the island in the middle of the island. Here we would be spending a week. We met a funny Swiss girl in this hostel who just left yesterday but is renting a flat in Buenos Aires and we will probably meet up with her again in the near future. She has been traveling solo for eleven months and said she is "about halfway" done with her trip. This was good motivation and a solid reminder to have a good sense of the long run. We realize we have a long road ahead to go where we would like ...

... We followed one guy to his hostel and luckily he spoke Spanish because now we were in Brazil and they speak Portuguese. The hostel turned out to be wicked, situated on the river just off the beach and the only way to get to it was by a little boat. We had a dorm to ourselves for the first 2 nights which was $15 each and then we had to move into our own room for only $17.50 each. This suited us fine as we still got our own bathroom and own kitchen. This was ...
