... strolled by. I would guess that pup was about six months old. He or she was a real beauty and made both Marilyn and me quite puppy-sick for our kids!
We continued on strolling the streets and heard a great oom-pa-pa band playing at the local German pub/restaurant... that added great energy and spirit - character - to the area.
Without much to see except for some lovely old architecture, we resigned ourselves back to the car and headed home for our final dinner ...
... thanks to the rural area with it's rolling landscape and more beautiful than we probably expected. It's a big difference to the dramatic coastline of Big Sur, and almost soothing as we drive south.

Driving through the desert: Is a lot of fun… you see sand, and more sand… some shrubs, some mountains oh and more sand, stones and sand, and Giant cactus…… the best signs are “Rest area closed to constructions" – which we encountered ...
... After an hour we stopped near Santa Cruz for lunch, shortly after lunch we got held up in a traffic jam as there was a fire on the side of the road, it put us about 40 mins behind. Once we got onto the pacific highway the views were pretty good, driving on a windy cliff road right next to the ocean.
