Phuket

Arrived at the Phuket Airport and was immediately hit with 90 degree temperatures with 80+% humidity. It was hot. It was so hot all we could do was check into the hotel and then nap for 4 hours. Upon waking up at about 5pm we took a walk down to Nai Yang Beach part of Sirinat National Park to watch the sunset. The next day we had a driver take us all around Phuket Island. The actual town of Phuket didn't impress me much; it was just like any old town in Thailand, but after a quick drive out t...

After a few days I moved over to Ton Sai to meet up with Maria from earlier in my travels through Laos, and to do some climbing with Steve. We sorted out a beginners' half day course with a Thai guy called Zak and ...

I settled in The Reggae Bar - a large bar with a free buffet (aaaah) and a Thai Boxing ring, with the chance to fight anybody else in the bar for a free bucket. I thought about having ...

Time for a Little Vacation in Paradise

... my school gives everyone a week off for "Fall Break," and that is what happened last week. Lauren was already off work the entire month of October, so it worked out that we were both off from work this week and decided that we needed to get back to our true passion….. the beach!

The amazing part about Bangkok is travel to anywhere in Southeast Asia, especially Thailand is so cheap and easy. We booked plane tickets and a bungalow at a nice resort, and headed to Railay ...

pictures when I say them, and even more-so with the current state of the town,
as it looks as if nothing ever happened. Soda cooked us up a fantastic Thai
dinner along with good Thai beers. We hung out on the beach that night and

through firey hoops and over flaming jump ropes. Nathaniel and I retired early

... here or there by the touts. Not wanting to go with any of them, we decided to head off in any old direction. After walking for a while, we got some directions off a foreigner running a dive shop which was nice, but we looked at the guesthouse he recommended which was too expensive for what it was worth and had no air con. So we trecked up this mountain, by which time Jaye was getting very cranky and were showed another 'bungalow' in another guesthouse, which had ...

The Beach!

... evening we wandered around the heavily westernised streets which even included a Seven Eleven and several banks on the island, we had a bit of a spending spree, purchasing one of our best buys yet some fancy snorkeling masks. In the evening we and managed to find a small stall that only cooks Pad Thai on a street where only the locals go. Then we bought some beers and went for an evening stroll along the beach. The following day was one of our most eventful ...

... Mr. Soda had been buried under 3 meters of rubble and after many hours, during which he thought he would die, was finally rescued by two Western tourists. He is thankful to the Tsunami for the chance to reopen his restaurant. [I'm still not quite sure of the logic in that statement.] It occurs to me that this entry is premature, seeing as I have yet to actually visit The Beach (AKA Maya Bay). I'm going there tomorrow and I'll be sure to update the entry when I return.
