... amp; Dee's. Sorry to report the weather has been absolutely beautiful all week ... a bit chilly at night but mid twenties during the day. Sorry to hear Wellington has had a bad weather week ... whew we left just in time. ... the “desert” which had about a 40 foot high sand pile. We waxed small plywood boards to slide down the sand dune. There was a slight learning curve to figure out the more wax the better and faster and more fun the ride was. However, it was certainly no small feat to hike back up the sand dune at the end of the ride. We had to be back at the ferry by 3:30, so it was really quite a short day on the ...

... First stop was the Willows caravan park about 70 km west of Emerald - we tried to dig for sapphires for about half a day but the ground is very hard and all sapphires are from 500mmm to 2m deep and are found amongst granite rocks and boulders - requires months to dig to reasonable depths

Instead we bought some wash (sapphire bearing dirt) and found a few.

Willows is in the middle of a drought , drinking water being trucked in and almost no water left to wash ...

We headed north again and spent a week at the Scarborough Holiday Village just north of Brisbane. We thought we would try this spot as it was still close enough to our friends in Hamilton Brisbane so we could return the keys to their unit at Nobby Beach. We enjoyed a good chinese lunch with them at the Port.

Scarborough turned out to be a great spot. It was very quiet during the week but became quite busy on the weekend with heaps of people out ...

Even with all the 'people watching' available on a trip like this, plane journeys afford plenty of time for thinking. Malaysian Airlines had provided much material for thought following the loss of MH370 only some two months previous (at the time of writing) and still no signs of positive identification. The Wife's 'super duper', all singing and dancing 'in seat television' decided not to work for the eight hour flight, prompting the stewardess to start to ask the gentleman ...
